I'm putting a 1.4 SR engine into my 1.0 shell

What all will need to be changed ?

Loom/s etc ?

Cheers :)

Fuel tank
Fit a return pipe
Drivers side engine mount
Rad/Pipes
Cut and Shut the exhaust, or fit a complete 1.4sr system

Fuel tank shouldn't be a problem as with the return fuel pipe

Engine mounts are all there

Rad I'll need to source lol

Exhaust system is pretty much sorted as well

So, nothing about engine loom, coil or any engine wiring what so ever ?

i had to connect from the ignition live on the wipers to coil, change tank to have a return and rad

So I can use what's there of my 1.0 engine loom to work with the 1400 SR engine ?

Run a new ignition live to go to the sr coil, and then theres just 2 more wires to connect (earth and green to rev counter)

Use the 1L starter/alternator wiring.

Piss easy really

I have pretty much everything for a 1400 SR except the engine loom but I have the 1.0 engine loom so it should work out with a few wee mods ?

fit a 34/32 carb wont need to change tanks or fit a return then :)

you wont need 2 change the tank when ur runin the 40s

I've no idea what to do so that's why I'm asking

So, I WON'T need to change the tank ?

1.0 tanks have no return outlet, so assuming you are using the standard SR carb will need to swap your tank for one from any of the 1.2/1.3/1.4 carb models. Also you will need to fit a fuel return line (use the rubber braided stuff off ebay, its cheap) :)

As said the left-hand engine mount will need changing for any of the 1.2 upwards variety and the radiator and hoses are also different.

Most of the wiring is very similar but you will need to extend your oil pressure switch wire (blue wire) as the OHC engines have the switch at the bottom of the engine on the drivers side.

I'm sure the wiring for the coil is also already in the loom (thin black for live/thin green for earth back to clocks. (This green wire goes to behind the clocks and will have a spade fitting if its a Mk1 ready to connect to the SR type clocks).

Again the live feed to the carb will need to be taken off another wire as this is not on the 1.0 loom.

Hope this all helps

its not the mount that needs changed its the bracket that attaches to the mount and engine

oops thats what i meant - i have one here if you need Vaughan

swap the crappy resistive wire from the ign switch to the coil for some normal wire. the crappy one is easy to find, as it is the only wire with a clear cover.

My nova was a 1.0 life and is fitted with a corsa 1.4 engine, running the standard 1.0 tank and radiator, seems fine. The mechanical fuel pump has been bypassed with an FSE fuel pump and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, the only problem I have is the Pierburg 2E carbs choke is donald ducked!!

Fuel tank
Fit a return pipe

????????????????? everyone on here told us we needed a return and a new tank for my bros sr conversion so he went and bought a brand new tank for £55 and it didnt need 1!

So what did you do with the return pipe running from the carb towards the tank???

there isnt one mate?

you could fit a t-piece in couldnt you?
and this "resistive wire" everybody talks about never got touched when i fitted my 1300,and it ran ok

what coil did you use???? the 1.0 has a 6v coil with a ballast resistor (the resistive wire), this is an old trick to help the car start easier on contact breaker ignition. there is also an extra wire from the starter solenoid which gives the coil the full 12volts to give it a big spark and it reverts back to 6v when you let go of the key.

on a std 'delco' coil on a 1300, it would give a weak spark. it might work ok, but if you then did an efi conversion, it won't work

standard 1300 coil.Started and ran fine with no problems

why what theoretically should have happened?

mowgli
20-03-10, 10:32 PM
it should have had a weak spark, & thus run crap & give bad mpg

where is this wire? im converting from a 1.0 to a x16xe?

its the little black wire in your loom that runs down the n/s chassis leg that goes to your coil mate, i will have a lime green wire running by it thats the rv counter wire that runs to the negative on the coil
