No not iPods but your pod/guages.

Once the car is done I will be looking at getting some vital instruments like boost, oil temp wideband etc. Just wanna see how you guys have mounted them and where.

Just need some inspiration on what looks good and seeing some may help me find some suitable pods for the Nova as I don't know where to begin really.

Ill be mounting 2 gauges where the stereo would go.

You could make a custom dash insert.

Mines an MK1 so I don't have the luxury of mounting them in the dash like the above pic.

mk1 dash's are a little tougher! Are you running a stereo? Stereo blanking plate is normally a good solution. I've got some blanks because of the poverty spec of my nova for the end vertical heater vents - dont know if its wide enough to fit a couple there?

Yeah I do have a stereo and a pretty good soundsystem in place so wouldn't wanna get rid of them tbh. I suppose A pillar pods will probably be the easiest and cleanest way to house the guages.

I always thought a pillar gauges were a bit too Fast & Furious. Just my opinion.

If you can get them to fit on the end plate they'd be quite subtle imo.

Unfortunately Simps the only blank I have left from the photo above is the one left of the headlight switch. The lower one are all used up.

[EDIT] I know what you're saying I've never been a huge fan of pillar pods but I've got no room left. All the blanks are full.

You can use the long far right one, just disconnect thw heating duct. I've got a psare blank you can have I'm sure.

Can you not just upgrade to a mk2 dash! lol

Before anyone posts a pic of A-pillar pod mounted gauges, they look gash.

Exactly that. Already was fitted when I bought the car.

Nova Tek, why not relocate the headunit
to the glove box then use the headunit space for gauges..
.. simplez :thumb:

I was thinking of that but ergonomically it's not very practical reaching over to change the track or station whilst driving would look as stupid as leaning over to the passger side to bring down the window lol. Can't remove the centre vents as they're they only vents I have (and windscreen ones obviously) lol

This is ghey man :( ...

COUGH ;)

Thing is though Southie, it will only fit one guage. I need to fit 2/3.

Hmmm, looks like the only place I can stick them is ................................ here ^^^^^^ on the side vents blanking plate. Will need to rotate and raise the outer part of the gauges so that they are facing me. Otherwise they won't be much use if they're unseen.

Shuffle on iphone FTW :thumb:
or radio.
Putting gauges where the light switch
wouldn't that be less ergonomic as its not really
a place you can keep your eye on
as it is a bit low..?

on the old L200 pickups, the posher ones had a 3 gauge pod on top of the dash in the middle

I've been looking at middle of the dash housing for gauges but finding one that won't make it look chavved up won'T be easy

Holden style is done a lot on dragsters etc and does make sense actually... they'd get robbed over here though :(

modify your centre console?

Nova_Tek
13-03-10, 09:40 AM
Could do.

Southie, could you do a photoshop of two gauges on the driver side vent plate facing towards the driver, please.

Wanna see how that is. That's probably the only way of using current space in the dash.

what size do the gauges need be to fit there?

The Simps
26-03-10, 10:50 PM
Standard guage size will fit (52mm I think). You will need to either remove the heater controls completely or modify them like I did. The holes need taking out slightly and when you remove the gubbins there is a metal half moon plate covering the bottom half of the hole. This needs filing out.
