Ok im looking into getting a 4x4 and a car trailer, and thought about getting a frontera because its a vaux lol.
most of the ones i can afford are the petrol models like the sport, just wondering if anyone knows what they're like for pulling etc. cant see them being much use myself but theres a few fairly nearby so thought id ask.
quite fancy getting into a bit of offroading/green laning too so any info on what they are like off road will be appreciated :thumb:

Havn't had much to do with petrol fronteras but people have said they're not that good and quite thirsty. They dont perform great off road either. if you want a nice towing vehicle/ off roader then a v8 land rover springs to mind.

They're useless both on and off the road tbf fella lol. I'd go for a shogun or a disco.

just been looking at montereys, never gave them a thought tbh. i would get a v8 landy but i couldnt afford to pay the fuel tanker driver to follow me around....

baxter, yeah i gathered that, thats why i never pursued it lol

Fronteras are gas guzzlers. We've got a Kia Sorento - has a 2.5ltr turbo diesel Merc engine under bonnet and is as tough as anything (we regularly go off roading in it towing horse box and a 1 ton portable field shelter and it copes really well).

You can pick them up 2nd hand for about 6-8k nowadays - new theyre only £15k. Cheap as chips and v reliable...

Disco's have a habbit of rusting.....and they are not amazing off road either tbh the over hang on the rear is so bad. Defender 90 is were its at and get the best engine you can afford. The v8s are good and lots are around with lpg conversions allready done, the 200 and 300 tdi engines are ok but not amazing, but the td5 is a very good one...

fronteras are just the best, i wish id kept my 2.0l sport done everthing i wanted it to do, even in the mud,but it did cost me over 200 quid to get from liverpool to hull and back (260 mile journey) but that was flat out most the way. was very bouncy on cart springs also.

id go for an old school square patrol, 4.6 straight 6 diesel, brill 4x4 system, proper locking diffs, locking transfer cases, LSD as std lol

no just a crappy locking transfer like a green oval

pick one of them up for £1k now :)
or one like mine for £3k with leather ect: lol

mitsubishi is my choice... fast, not too thirsty (td) good aircon (always get aircon), fantastic at towing & off road.

you can get an old style L200 for cheap money now...

i also really like the disco3 but they cost tons to buy

i was on about the old shape ones, not those hairdressers tractor things they sell now

18' ifor williams triaxle trailer with a 120cm twin drum terex roller, and 1/2t of assorted kit. (i won't publish the weight but it was illegal)

the legal towing weight is 2700kg & it can do a hell of a lot more than that.

the trick with an L200 is to swap the fuel filter every 6 months, or it will be flat as a fart
