Which gearboxes would fit a C25XE? I blew my F20 but can I get away with an F18 etc and will it make a massive difference?

All the big block boxes will fit the C25, from the F16 to F28 - all depends how much you want to spend really..

Well I just need something to get me back on the road. Will an F18 be any less strong than an F20?

F18 wont be as strong as a F20, as the name suggests.

Stick the F18 on if you have one.

F23 mate. Would have thought the V6 would have come with that.

[edit] ^ ahh beat me to it lol

ok so F25 should be the one that would last in a V6 and still be drivable.

yep, but it has a different back mount, so tis a custom job. id run another f20, but strip and check it first.

get sloth to make you some mounts, with all the v6 conversions hes done, he could knock any type of mount up in seconds

Yeah its got an F20 on it at the moment but it has ate 3rd gear lol. It the process of eating it it spat all he teeth from the cogs and had destroyed every other gear  . I took the selector off to have a look and its bad! I will upload a pic. The front gearbox mount was loose so loose that you can rock the engine while stationary!! This might have had some effect. I think I will put another F20 in it. I have just bought compatition mounts. I have a friend in a garage who is willing to swap it for £80 so its £60 for the box so all in £140 to fix it.

Can I use my old clutch as its like new?

slap an f16 in her. in my experience there stronger than an f20. i think the whole torque rating think is aload of cock. ive blown loads of f20's and never an f16.

i think thats a bad idea,

with the mass of the v6 moving about, its going to bend the car then trash the mounts lol

When I say mounts I mean the rear gearbox mount for now lol.

F20 or F16 IMO. The F25 has crap long ratios & makes the engine seem flat, as does the heavy std flywheel.

F20's seem fragile because they have already done 100k miles on an XE before being transplanted into cars expecting further abuse.

Yeah I can see your point. It has a f20 flywheel at the moment. I will get this one and see how it goes. Theres a nice Calibra 4x4 Turbo been sat in a neighbours garage for 6 years with a blown engine but a nice F28 on it that I fancy lol

I'd be knocking on that neighbours door everyday untill he sells me that Cally for dirt cheap. lol

I'm not sure I was 16 when it happened. I keep asking about it but he doesn't think i'm serious.

I might pop over tonight and have a proper word.

Just done a V6 with F25 into a Corsa! Was an absolute mare getting it right and making up a linkage! Would imagine it would be even more trickier into a Nova as you'd possibly need to make up 2 mounts

Stick with the F20 :thumb:

How is it in the Corsa with the F25? I heard the F20 was quicker but interested in the F25 info.

F25 has a lot longer ratios, suppose its a bit like a VTEC where you have to keep your foot planted for longer..

At least you can say 'V6 just kicked in y0!'

Yeh took it on my usual test route to see what its like, gears totally different. Does some rediculous speeds in 1st and 2nd lol
On the bendy stuff though (i know its a v6, its not supposed to go round corners and all that crap but) its too low for some gears and not high enough for others! Me no likey that cos i like the windy stuff! On the other hand though the owner says its brilliant for just cruising around, excellent on fuel & superb on the motorway!

So depends on how and what kind of roads you drive.......
Again its all down to personal preference :thumb:
