my front window qtrs have rusted and look poo. is there any way of restoring them???
i thought that hammerite would do the job but after sanding all the rust off and makinng it smooth etc it turns out the paint look far too shiny and you can see the brush marks (i personally reckon it looks worse than the rust!)
any ideas? been down the scrap yard a few times and had no joy seems like it was a built in design plan for them to rust!

I did novanutters passenger side the other day. just mask up all around it, just leaving the black bit and the rubber (cos its black it doesnt matter if u get paint on it), rub all the rust off then just chuck a couple of coats of matt black spray on there. looks lovely.
thats wot I was gonna say...
Just flat back the hammerite (may need to leave for a week or so for it to fully cure)
Make sure you mask off all the surrounding car!

would you need to primer this before you started?
or will the spray paint be alright just going straight onto the metal????

I didnt prime it. dunno if your should or not but i didnt.
if youve applied a layer of hamerite Iid say no. Just flat it back tio remove brush strokes and spray.
Otherwise I'd say yes, you need primer

I put some hammerite on, rubbed that down, put some primer on then some black, its looking much better than b4 :D
