I need to get a larger alternator for my Nova SR due to the extra equipment i need to run for night events.

Currently i have got a 55A, but from reading the Competion build manual, i need something in the area of 90A. What vechicle would i find one thats suitable?

A newer vauxhall... Something with PAS/Air con etc.
Only problem being it wont have a belt pully fitted to it thats suitable for your sr, it'll be a wide ribbed belt

Ah thats a point, the Build Manual uses the GTE/GSI with powersteering, so if i actually work it out what i need, might be lower. I can feel a afternoon full of math coming on.....

What would be the biggest alternator that would come with a vee front pully?

Probably 55/60A tbh.
Most higher output alternators have double/wide belts so they can drive multiple other things......

You could try swapping the pullys though, might need play about with some washers to space the pully out keep the belt aligned. And your belt tension lever might not fit, because newer engines have auto tensioners

have you checked your charging to see if your alternator couldnt do with a re-con? i used to run a sub/amp etc and my alt wasnt up for the job even though it would run the car perfectly. had it re-con'd and then all was fine.

ive got a re-con'd one for sale if your interested.

Yeah theres nothing wrong with the alternator currently on the car, just wont be powerful enough to run the high powered head lamps, spotlamps, fan constantly on, map lights, large digital clock, electric fuel pump when/if i fit it the heaters, wipers, etc.
But it might be a case of speaking to a specialist to see if the one i have got, could be uprated internally or matched with something.
