Jack's Slice & dice

Hello.

Now to all those that dont know, Jack went into hospital yesterday for his (hopefully) last operation. Its called a RPLND and its quite major surgery. Basically they are cutting him open, shifting all his organs out of the way and then cutting out his lymph nodes and the dead Cancer cells that have been left over from the chemo.
The last text I got from him was at 1225 today so im guessing his is under the knife at the moment. Hopefully he will be done by 4 or 5pm.
Anyway, we joked that we would do a "before and after" shot of his stomach so here is the before...

I shall add an "after" pic as soon as I get one. It will prob be a 9" scar going straght down the middle of his belly.

I shall update this as soon as I have rung his ward and know that he is out of theatre, but fingers crossed this is the last bit of treatment he will need.

Im sure he will be showing off his cool scar to everyone at the next meet anyway. and im still trying to pursuade him to have a zipper tattoo at the top. :d

just rang the ward and he is still in theatre. (insert instant panic on my part!)
but the staff nurse said she wasnt worried coz she thinks he went down quite late in the end.. so gotta ring back in about an hour.
(they were probably delayed by strggling to cut through his rock hard 6 pack) :roll:

well when he was on ward 18 yesterday - he said it was 630pm - 730pm.

but he is on ward 9 now so .. im assuming its the same? it better be coz im not going to make a 4hr round trip to see him for an hour to be told that its the wrong time.. i think they may have to physically remove me from the hospital at that point.

Thing is though jack the liquid morphine and co-codamol will keep you comfy for a bit, it's just when you start to move to go home you'll hurt, the bruising is yet to come out too!

I know it's not quite the same but my hernia op hurt like hell, so i have all the sympathy in the world for you mate..

Quite sore actually, but I think thats mainly due to the dressing pulling me about a bit. Rather than the 12" slice in my belly lol Its a clear dressing though so my staples are on display. Will go scare kids with them later.

Overall not a bad experience, hospital was decent, bed was comfy, food was... meh, dunno, didn't eat hardly anything whilst I was in there. A few dappy patients and nurses that got quite annoying, but one of the painkillers they gave me was ace as a sleeping tab. Poleski Rob won the poo stakes though, he pushed one out before me :(

Not a chance, the suspension on that is way too harsh. Even my dad's S3 was bad enough coming home from the hospital; mind you the A37 isn't exactly a flat road.

Had the last of my staples taken out today (half taken out monday, half wednesday). Had 30 of them in total.

The lower end of the scar was a bit leaky where my trousers go across the wound. Healed up pretty well though, but I'm still a bit swollen and puffy - even my belly button has been squished!

Follow up appointment is end of April, so I'll have the results of the biopsy then. I'll have a CT scan sometime in April as well I hope.

[edit] It looks worse than it is. (actually, what am I saying? I was cut open by abot 10" and had a surgeon remove my innards. Thats pretty bad when you think about it)

Doesn't really hurt though, the staples twinged a bit when they came out, and I've had the odd pain when moving it but aside from that its been Ok.
