i have already tried a 4 ft bar
Keep trying. Aslong as it hasnt been buzzed on by an apprentice at a tyre place then it will come off. Dont stop pulling until the car starts to lift off the ground lol

You said "already tried a huge bar it just made the car roll forward" so either stick it in gear or put a brick under the wheel, n swing off the bar! it'll go, if not it'll be the first one that doesnt!

lol armageddon definitely going to frame it now tbh its not as if its been on there long tho, i think the other wheel bolts are scared of the same fate as on the way home i heard the dreaded tap tap tap tap of the wheel coming loose lol, so i pulled over and tightened them up lol

Curtoise
04-03-10, 01:57 AM

Use a breaker bar with a piece of scaffolding pole on it, that will remove this legendary wheel bolt.

I've not found a stuck nut or bolt that I couldn't undo or break by standing on the end of a breaker bar :d.
On a more serious note, use a proper penetrating oil, not WD40, and have you shocked the threads with a hammer?
Jackroadkill
04-03-10, 10:49 AM
Heat it up with a gas torch until it glows red hot, then get the bar on it.
Am i too late?

Heat it up with a gas torch until it glows red hot, then get the bar on it.
yeh coz that wont damage/mark my wheel lol
Are you using a proper 6 sided socket?
I just skimmed this and I have my doubts lol.
Ghetto it off! We loosened the crank pulley bolt on my mates R33 GTR by jamming a power bar against the chassis leg and turning it over on the starter. Improvise!
OK now I have read it all. I bet he is going the wrong way. lol
Also FYI wheel bolts suck!
Southie
04-03-10, 12:28 PM
Are you sure it's not got a locking wheel nut on. lol
Jackroadkill
04-03-10, 12:32 PM
yeh coz that wont damage/mark my wheel lol
Didn't damage mine when I did it a few weeks back!
Curtoise
04-03-10, 01:46 PM
omg, its a locking bolt !
nah its not, and now i have rounded my 6 sided socket and split the star socket omg this is silly i have tryed a massive bar it bent and then snapped might just take it to a grage quickly to razz off lol

Or take the other three off and run it on one - it will soon come loose. lol
Curtoise
04-03-10, 01:55 PM
i think im going to to go my local garage, and see if they can get it off with the airguns, no doubt they will charge me tho
Curtoise
04-03-10, 01:55 PM
Or take the other three off and run it on one - it will soon come loose. lol
lmfao you would not belive i was contemplating that earlier lol
If you have rounded a 6 sided socket (:/) then hammer another onto it. They aren't in with much torque. Even if it has been gunned in at 500nm or something stupid (unlikely it's uber tight as it would have stripped the threads) a scaffy bar and a power bar will crack it off.
Sure you're not just p!ss weak? lol

My mate did this with a car of his when the wheel wouldnt come off the hub. So he drove it down the alley until it fell off lol

What was the reason you where taking the wheel off for anyway lol
What was the reason you where taking the wheel off for anyway lol
Probably to change the drum. lol
Curtoise
04-03-10, 02:04 PM
lol nah, yeh he 6 sided nova wrench has rounded so it slips not, its been hammerd on aswell lol, 3 guys have had a go not, its putting up a bloody good fight, i think its because 2 weeks ago i rut the wheel back on in the rain lol, but the other 3 are fine lol
Curtoise
04-03-10, 02:05 PM
nah its front, i wanted to see what some wheels looked like, but now its pissing me off and im gonna get it off otherwise it will think its won lol
I know it's front. Hence saying you were removing the rear drum. lol
Wonder if you've got a sticky caliper and fused the bolt into the hub. I've done similar with another car. Nut to stud FTL. They just snap when you try and undo them then. Have you got Delco's? lol
I reckon you and your mates have the combined strength of an anorexic, arthritic toddler. lol
Have you tried a scaffolding pole yet, that will either loosen the bolt off or it will snap it, either way the wheel will be off lol
His Cadburys sockets are rounding off. If i read rightly he rounded the wheel brace off too? lol
Are they made of clay or something
I think its time to invest in some new sockets lol
Impact socket, big hammer and some luck ?
what a carry on!
Get some serious heat on it.
Failing that, borrow a gas axe off some gyppo's
Clay sockest has me PMSL

impact socket and big bar and swing on the fecker
nova_saloon
04-03-10, 03:41 PM
put all the other wheel bolts back on nice and tight may relieve some pressure off of it! but long bar in gear bricks under tyres. then step 20ft back then run and fly kick it! ninja style
get a hexagon socket, and use the sliding t bar with a pipe on the end make sure it is in first gear and get the foot brake pushed on hard & chocked with either a lump of wood or a mate... get another mate to jump on the pipe... and you whack the bit on the tbar, that fixes to the socket, really hard with a hammer...
its how we take stubborn lorry wheelnuts off
Curtoise
04-03-10, 05:09 PM
hmm just had a bout of fail! jumping on the wheel brace, and it flung off into next doors car door whooops, meh its already got loooaaads of dents in it they wont notice, i think the problem is getting the socket on properly, as it keeps flying off, the whee brace is just at bad, i think thats why its taken some of the hex off it. ffs this is annoying nah i need a scaffolding pole
Curtoise
04-03-10, 05:18 PM

wheel brace is poo if its that tight get a 17 or 19 mm impact socket (the black ones) size is dependant on stud and a long bar dont use scafold pole on a wheel brace there made of cack metal and as you have found just round, socket and long bar if that dosent work scafold pole on the long bar
dave watson

if you break the stud off, then the threaded bit wil be loose in the hub.....
the tight bit is where the bolt is hitting the rim

nope havnt tried driving it around with 3 bolts
might be worth a try.. just go slowly though and give it plenty of braking to warm the hub/disc up

Gotta agree there Mark. lol
Even so, it's still not 'round' You could have brayed an 18mm (assuming it's a 19mm) over that and had it off in no time.
Biggest thread of fail on here for a very long time! Cheers for the +ve rep btw. lol
God knows what you would have done if you lost the locking wheel nut key like I did just after xmas. BTW I had all four 'lockers' off in about 15 minutes. Would have been much quicker if not for trips down the garden to the garage to use the vice. lol
moral of this thread: buy decent tools in the first place.

and always source a fat mate to jump on the breaker bar ;)
moral of this thread: buy decent tools in the first place.
my thoughts excatly:d
more of the right tool then decent.
as some one else has said, i have never had a tool fail doing its job.
Moral of this thread get a clue. Even with crap tools you can remove a wheel. Could have probably removed it with a swan neck spanner tbh! lol

lmfao yeh pretty much altho i didn't have the proper tools! and i think its rounded oddly because the socket split so ony gripped a few edges i guess oh and it coming flying off grr, yeh i need tools

how is that the moral lol its the opposite proved? lol and its not simply removing a wheel lol i didn't even remove the wheel when i got it off lol
you welcome for the rep

i have already snapped a bar lol, makes me think need to adjust the handbrake tbh, hmm another epic thread of fail ?
Those things are crap. They can snap/bend.
Get yourself a 150pc Halfords Pro (older style) socket set and a scaffy bar.
You don't even need a breaker bar, bust the drive in the ratchet and they will replace it for you een though they aren't supposed to. lol
Get a clue is an acceptable moral. I'd see if you can buy one of those before you blow money on tools. Try the car boot sale, you can get everything there expect dignity.

Well done, see it was not so hard was it, though i think if the thread on the bolt was not shagged in the first place would of helped, it probably made a right mess inside the hub thread?

Dude that cus if you look at the thread on the old one it was buggered before you put it in, if something wont go in most the way just by hand (as in no tools, just use a socket, and turn by hand) then there is something not right, you might be cross threading it etc, so stop and remove the bolt and inspect it, keep this in mind for anything bolt/nut wise in future mate.

kk thanks good tip, i guess because the offset is ****e i couldnt do it up with fingers lol, do had to use the wheel brace therefore not feeling the fault
i would just like to say well done for getting the offending bolt out.
but have we got pics of why you needed them out
Curtoise
05-03-10, 06:52 PM
no lol i just wanted it out and not stuck so when i do have to change the wheel lol, get it outa the way
Wheel offset has FA to do with the reason you couldn't access the bolt btw. lol

Copper slip your wheel bolts next time.
Copper slip your wheel bolts next time.
and only put them on with a genuine wheelbrace, ie a short manually operated one.
windy guns are good for taking them off, not putting them on
True^ i have a bad habit of doing them up with my bar way to tight. I know they don't need to be but just don't want them comming off..lol ever tho i know they wont.

over tightening road wheels is still bad idea as the stress on the bolt wile traveling at speed can snap it and then ur ****ed so do it to recomended torque or as you do just abit tight not OTT

Just remember that torque ratings are for a reason, too loose and they come off, but snapping one is just as bad if not worse lol That should scare you into not jumping on them next time lol
