How do you get the engine managment light to flash

what pins on the 16 pin plug to you join to make the light flash up trouble codes?

basically there is some wires that go to i think a green plug off the loom or a black plug (coming from the main plug). there is two brown wires with yellow stripes. Cut one and attach it to a good earth point on the car and hey presto its starts flashing

Oh right, i know some people use a split pin, the engine is in a corsa and its got the 16 pin diagnostic plug with the xe loom wired in. the management light comes on with the ignition but then goes out but want to find out if there are any codes on it as to why its misfiring
