I like the way everybody slates cutting springs but i bet you half of us have done it in the past lol

however, that top pic is a failure.

As long as they're not progressive and remain captive, either by size or cable ties then I don't see the issue. There's a lot of discussion goes into it on certain forums and some brains say it is 100% fine as everything remains the same, bar the ride height.

However, I wouldn't be happy buying a SMC from Barry White with chopped springs! lol

Anyone remember Meritlovers uber low rear springs for sale? lolz

I would never sell or buy cut springs but in the past i have done it myself, but only with uprated springs. I cut 3 coils off my old corsa springs and they were totally fine. they are in my mates corsa at the moment after all these years and still handles nice, bar a bit bumpy lol

Cable ties are needed sometimes. My rear springs in the nova needs them just so they dont fall out when i jack it up.

nowt wrong with cut springs, the physics backs that up.

I have no issues at all running the Volvo with Land Rover 90 front shocks on the rear and 2" lowering blocks and 2" chopped off the front springs with 90w SAE in the dampers. The bouncy ride you get when running standard (gas filled) shocks just adds to their poor reputation though. lol

Even though mine stay captive when jacked up, you can turn them a little so for that reason it failed it's MOT a few months back. lol
