Hi all,
Basically i put a 1.6 8v nova gsi engine into my corsa, i used a loom from an astra 1.6
its all wired up and running fine thanks to sloth, when i put my foot down it lags and judders if i ease off the throttle and start again its ok, any ideas as its annoying.
when i started it up the little end bearing went aswell as the crank so i rebuilt it for free i used a 1.2 crank ( the same just 2 less paddles ) and the shell bearings ( identical ) - shouldnt be the problem ??

As i say its fine when i ease of the throttle but i can tell its holding back and want to go

Also there is one wire i havent connected up near the ecu its black / brown
i cant seem to find another one from the ecu to connect it to

thanks

Did you swap the fuel pump?

Where abouts have you mounted the pump?
Have you wired up your ecu light at all so you can flash fault codes up?
Also have you checked for any air leaks around the inlet?

its in the tank southie as its a bubble.....
he was wiring his ecu light last night iirc, the air leak is a possibility.

if you used a crank from a 1.2, its stroke is about 8mm too short, so it will be gutless as anything.

basically you have built a 1436cc engine that will be running at about 7:1 compression

Bang a big turbo on there & you'll be flying.

ecu light flashes no codes, all the air pipes are on or blocked off
compression is 8.2 on all 4

if its gutless how come it wants to go but doesnt is that what it does ?
if i ease of the throttle alot it runs fine

cheers

for god's sake man!!!!!!!!

you have a short stroke crank in a long stroke engine, it simply isn't compressing the fuel mix enough to actually get enough power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8.2:1 is enough to run on corn ethanol, not petrol

every setting will be wrong, timing, fueling, sensors etc......

put the right crank in it & then it will run properly, i have a 1600 injection and it pulls really well, even when the ecu light is on

or slap a huge turbo on it.....

so 100% new crank ? if it is ill either get mine re ground or find a 1.68v bottom end

nothing else it can be ( before i start spending money )

Bought a 1.6 crank today with bearigns etc, got it all fitted and its exactly the same.
now for the wiring side as i now know the engine is fully rebuilt top to bottom

Map sensor isnt connected ? i have a

Black and White wire and a green wire from the map running to the car near the ecu
i cant see anywhere to wire it in any ideas ?

Picture of the map, the brown wires are all connected up correctly

Green - A7 Ecu
Brown / Black - D3 ECU
Black / White - B8 Ecu or tap to TPS Black / White

will try tomorrow :)

trust me on this, a 1.2 crank is only about 8mm shorter across the big end journals than a 1.6, but they are made from the same basic metal forging.

mowgli, he's fitted a new 1.6 crank. have you got the vac pipe on the map connected mate, as you left a few off....

All the wiring side is all connected up
the vac pipe is on the map

i have 2 left to figure out where they go

the 1.6 crank is fitted

just blank em off with some 10 mm bolts, theyre for the charcoal canister. i still think the crank sensor is goosed.

very, cant figure it out have a video of how it runs :
Doesnt seem bad on the video but it backfires alot and judders
it also still hits a " brick wall "

New plugs & leads still the same, spend 2 days straight on this now
anyone ideas where the vacumn pipes are supposed to go ?

Still hits a brick wall when putting foot down

Will pay for someone to give me a hand on sorting it out + make a good cuppa

another day today and still nothing, all sensors have been replaced
compression is down on all 4 cyl reading 7

may be time to take the head off and have alook at pistons and valves ?

Sloth
07-03-10, 07:42 PM
possible, have you checked your timing?.

Markd89
07-03-10, 07:57 PM
timing is spot on must have checked it several times now need to get to work in it asap

mowgli
07-03-10, 08:02 PM
i'm guessing that its cam timing could be out, or has been in the past, then the valves are possible damaged, or bearing in mind that the big end picked up, the rings could be shot..

Markd89
07-03-10, 08:07 PM
whats the average reading on a compression test for a 1600 8v ?
its also over fueling alot, spark plugs always black and stinks of petrol

£250 including bearings is the cheapest i've found, novarally may have one for £20

The one i originally took out had 8 weights / oil spillers, the one that got put back in only had 6, i didnt realise the 1600's had different cranks in hense the low compression on all 4 clys i hope ?

picture below of my original crank :
