mk1 saloon light problem

As soon as the battery is connected the headlights stay on, but if u turn the light switch to side lights the rear lights and front side lights come off and when u turn the switch too headlights the sidelights & rear lights stay on but the headlights wont turn off/on with the switch, anybody have any ideas what this could be? any help will be appriceated. cheers

Earth, behind the dash. Or the switch itself.

erm yeah all rear lights work, indicators front and side and full beam are all ok, its really confusing lol.

what work have you recently done to the wiring(you say as soon as you connect the battery thats all)? sounds like earth/short circuit problem dude
