View Full Version : DVLA clamped my cavalier....

Just came home from work to find a big yellow clamp on my Cav:eek: It has been declaired SORN since oct'09 and kept in my garage while i have been stripping various parts off it.

It only has the interior and some trim parts left to come off. Thing is, i decided to move it out of my garage on the weekend so i could get to some things and do a job on my Nova. I couldn't push it back in so i decided to leave it out in my back street (little cul de sac) i was planning to get the interior out this week and then get my mate to collect it and weigh it in for scrap.

Sods flipping law, looks like a tw@t of o neighbour reported it...yeah i know me own fault:cry: What the hell do i do now:confused: I was thinking of getting out tonight to finish stripping it, even to the point of burning the doors off:roll: and then leave the DVLA to there own crushing devices. It has no MOT, so i cant tax it, and theres no way i am paying the £100 release fee, since the car is only worth 50 quid scrap..

Will i be liable to a fine?

Too bad im in work tomorrow, id love to see the clampers faces when they are faced with a one-wheeled ''not'' rolling shelllollol

jack it up, take the whole hub off with clamp attached and hand it in as lost property

Phone them and tell them the car was left out to be recovered buy a scrap merchant, but if they want to scrap it for you let them lol

They will probably try and charge back tax if you did pay for its release!

Get the bits off and it saves the hassle of getting scrapman to collect it!

As above id go and get the rest of the bits off that you want then let em take it away, saves you the bother, unless you were relying on getting some dollar back by weighing it in!

As said, grind off the hub and just leave the wheel in the road in the clamp :)

DO NOT damage the clamp, they will fine the living daylights out of you.

take the bits you need and ram the car into your neighbour you think it was and let him explain to the dvla how it got there

Andy

Dont worry about it being stripped, they hi-ab them onto the bed anyway.as said just leave the clamp where it was undamaged

You gotta do that!!! I was so tempted to when the Police took my Corsa off me!!! Leave the wheel/hub/strut/caliper/disc etc etc it'll be piss funny!!

Let them take the car, youll then get a letter saying you owe use xxxx in storage fee's & the initial fine.

On the back will be a "statement" letter where you can "dis-own" the car, thus dodge the fine :thumb: Dis-own the vehicle, it DOES work. Ive done it.

He is taking the car off the clamp, not the clamp off the car;) lol

IMHO, If you fook about with it, they will go out of there way to ream you, just take the fine and be done with it.

Mike

If hes only scrapping the car, its pointless taking the fine IMO. Let em take it I say.

The clamp is so slack i can get to the wheel nuts and just disconnect the lower arm.... too bleeding tempting!!!:d

Hopefully you wont get another chance to strip one of your cars suspensions down with a clamp on it. so i say do it.

I cant see it being illegal to take your shell away and leave the suspension and wheel clamped in the street, they put it there.. and the shell is yours to do what you want with. i think they will say something about it though

Who cares if it is illegal, it will be worth the laugh if you do it.

Do it, take a pic and earn the respect lol

Just finished:wall:

My mate gave me a hand.... now we both got a headache:(

Didn't bother with the doors etc... but got most of the good stuff

The DVLA fellas probably wont bother taking the car nowlol

I am flaming kicking myself now for not doing what was suggested, and yes shold have stripped it more if it wasn't for my pounding headache.... was also thinking of bashing the hell out of it with my 12 pound hammer... (the car, not my head...)

PICS!

atleast take of 3 wheels and make it look abandoned. 4 or 6 bolts and you could leave just the front subframe and wheels.

Remove the wheel. Take the wheel to a garage and get the tyre taken off. Weigh the car in. Post the clamp back to the DVLA, with a 'with compliments' slip, and the log book, notifing them that the car has been scrapped.

Win!

i did just go and remove all the bolts on the clamped wheellol (very easy) so the weight of the car is just resting on it... the chain is wrapped around the wishbone... gord knows what'll happen when they lift the carlollol

It said on the notice it is an offence to tamper with the clamp.

It said nothing about tampering with the wheel:d

But ohh i think your right, they might try and remove the clamp beforehand, the car could drop...oops better go put the bolts back in then:roll:

Why not take the wheel off, then chain it to something on your property, then leave a note saying "this clamp has a release fee of £1000. Please call (your number here) to arrange a time."

Should make them fook off...

arnt the dvla clamps just chaned on so if you undo the bottom arm the chain comes off and the clamp can be removed so no need to leave the wheel

....Came home today to find the car gone:cry::cry:.....so long matey

lollol Was very slightly surprised really, didn't think they would be daft enough to take it, proper magpies they are!!!

Yes it would have been surprisingly easy to remove the clamp, the chain was slack as buggery.. And yes again, i am regretting not doing more:roll:, serious fun potential there!!

They haven't took it for the scrap value lol.

As above x100, should have took it off!

No doubt everyone else is also sick of the constant 'raod tax' adverts on the telly. Cars clamped/towed/crushed. I know! I pay it. Stop going on FFS.
Oh, and crush as many Ford Probes as you want. That's no threat to people. lol

We can't have this sort of fun up here! It's illegal for any company or person to clamp a car in Scotland lol it's classed as extorsion under scots law,

mowgli
04-03-10, 07:59 AM
letting the tyre down would have made enough room to get the wheel off, then the clamp would be easy.... leave very little & scrap it, then blame the gypsies

I have all of the ID from a mk1 xr2 I broke for parts a couple years back, it was cat D/C way back when so it's not required to be SORN. It's in limbo atm but one day I will register it with the DVLA, if only for it's number plate. lol God knows when it was last taxed etc.

i simply wrote them a nice letter explaining when i had bought it & who from, then apologised for my missus tidying it all up & packing it away, and they just did it..........
