I didnt gap them, they all had the same gap out of the box,

should be gapped properly.

Im going to get it running tomorrow and take each lead off while its running to see where the missfire is. its as if its running perminently on 3 cylinders and occasionally popping back through the exhaust I just hope its something simple lol

Ran the car this morning and no activity on number 3, i the lead and it didnt move away from number 3 got a new dizzy cap and rotor arm for it, hope it sorts it. Cant think what else it could be.

Put a new cap and rotor arm on it still no different, smokes like f**k and is running on 3, any ideas begining to pull my hair out.

check the plug on 3 for signs of over/under fuelling/not sparking at all, if it's not sparking at all, fuel is getting through and power is obviously getting to dizzy and 1 2 and 4, then it can only be the plug or the lead, swap them around a bit and see if the misfire moves.

I've swapped the leads and the miss stays on 3, i took the plug out and the plug was stil like new and fairly dry.

You're not getting fuel through on 3 then, check the injector plug/wiring leading to it.

Right, how does the injector loom come off? just with a pull or is it clipped onto the injectors. ive got a injector pulse tool somewhere I might use that tomorrow to see if the wiring harness is at fault or the injector. When i had it running a few mins ago it seems as if it misses on idle and then when the revs pic up it comes on 4 but coughs and holds back.

Could be an injector flow problem then, meaning when it's opened for longer it allows enough fuel in for it to fire, but not enough to power it properly. Try swapping the injectors over if you can... not sure on the loom on XE's but any smaller vauxs i have come across they're clipped with the little metal things that wrap around the plastic plug.

Ok i will have a look, would a bad earth cause a misfire? jus seems odd how its over fuelling on the other 3 but not on number 3 lol

have you changed the plugs mate ?

comptoncj

yeah, plugs, cap, rotor arm, timing belt. would the fuel pump relay cause a misfire ?

no should do mate, as daft as it sound mate seem like you have bough a duff item or it has a faulty injector, seem funny as it drove prefect mate

I know this is what i cant work out :S ive checked all the earths, checked the timing 4 times, im going to look at the injectors tomorrow could be the loom playing up as ive been told thats common. Ive got everything else sorted on it now though just gotta sort this misfire out.

Did a cylinder leakage test on number 3 this morning and its got 90% leakage blowing out of the air filter so im now thinking its got a valve out/stuck/bent :(
