Horrible tapping/knocking sound

I was happily driving along last night when my car died at a junction, got it stated again, but it sounded like it was struggling to do so, then whenever you give it any throttle you get this nasty very loud tapping, havent investigated yet as I only just towed it home.
Any ideas, it is a carb'd 1200. No overheating, plenty of oil ect....

Hope it is dead good excuse to drop something bigger in there. Doesnt sop it being a ball ache though!

plug lead off, cambelt slipped, distributor, oil pump failure, piston ring jumped out.. all valid reasons.

a good old rev will break rockers, but it will still run, so check that first lol

have you checked for a hook on the door handles.........

I go with this one, take the rocker cover off and see if one of the rockers that sit under the cam has snapped, it'lll still be stuck there, getting abused by the cam lol

they only tend to break at 8k + rpm lol

I've had a random snapping one before on startup, i thought the engine had blown up lol
