View Full Version : Help C20XE wont Start!

Just finished fitting my C20XE into the nova. Wired it up, sorted the fuel pump and tried to get it running.

But for some reason it wont fire.

I have spark and the spark plugs are wet so there is fuel entering the chamber.

All the timing marks were spot on when I put the new belt on.

It seems to want to fire but wont. Have not been able to do a pressure test but cant seem to find a reason why it wont fire!

Any ideas?

Its either fuel, spark or compression lol

Try compression test, are all the leads etc connected right?

Checked all fuel lines are right?

All earths on the rail? Some are small and fiddly!

Have you flashed any fault codes up? You may have a knackered crank sensor etc etc etc

Yeah Leads are connected 1342 as in manual. fuel is flowing through the injectors and got all three earths on the rail. two on the right one on the left! even ran an earth from the battery to the rail.

Type topbuzz into google and you'll find info there. I hope you've wired the ecu light in though or this will be useless.

wont be crank sensor - there is fuel (and spark)

There cant be enough fuel or a weak spark - as otherwise it would run.

The only sensor that would stop it running is the crank sensor tbh...so no real point in flashing the codes

Is it making a decent spark? Try some new plugs in it?
Make sure its not flooded too!

Close the gaps down on a new set of plugs. (assuming leads correctly ordered from dizzy cap)

right engine light is on. how do I get it to flash?

Although light does go off when cranking

Nope the XE doesnt have a cam sensor! lol

The crank sensor, if shagged will prevent the car from sparking or fuelling....

Code 31 is due to the fact the engine isnt running - you always get that code! ;)

ok now I am confused. I cant start the car even tho got fuel and spark!

31 Engine RPM signal (crankshaft sensor) No signal.

I am gonna try a new sensor from the breakers and see what happens.

Something aint right!

try a new crank sensor pal as said i you have fuel and spark it can only be that or it would fire.

And yeah as Will said you are getting that code because the engine aint running.

Just assumed it was the early type!

If there is fuel and spark a) it wont be the crank sensor and b) it will start (assuming you have compression!
By all means try another sensor - but dont buy a new one - use a spare etc...

How have you tested for spark and fuel?

it is a early engine aswell so forget cam sensors i sold it him lol
