hi, i am currently converting my nova to c20LET and want to tune it a bit, already have ph5 chips, xe inlet, adjustable FPR, large FMIC etc. and im planning running a different turbo as the kkk one is ar5e. basically im wanting to run around 300-350bhp and have a manifold lined up with a t3 flange. dont want to spend silly money on a turbo so looking at one off a different car, should i be looking at something like an rs turbo t3? seen a renault 21 turbo cheap, exhaust housing is .48, compressor .42 apparently:confused: or will i need something a bit more manly like a t34 off a cosworth? also what actuator would you guys recommend? really dont have much of a clue with turbo's, first forced induction engine i've built. all help/advice is much appreciated

Not really mega money, thats turbo money.

Pay £350 for a T34, then get it rebuilt £350+ Thats £750, you can buy a brand new unit for £800ish

A T3 will do 300bhp just,

roughly
.48 T34 - 370bhp
.55 T34 - 400bhp
.63 T34 - 420bhp

thanks lads, really cleared things up a lot for me. what about actuators and what sort of boost will i need to run to get the power i'm after? would a .48 t34 be less laggy than a .55 yeah? also are they internally gated or not? manifold has a takeoff for an external 'gate so not a problem if they arent

the t34 i have in externaly gated.

Paul

Yeh the .48 is not as laggy as .55/63.

The .55 are quite rare. To run much over a bar reliably on a T34, you will need a 360 bearing. Afaik all T34s are internally gated. I have a .48 1.2 bar=353bhp

the t34 i have in externaly gated. definitely? which one is it? .48/55/63?
and are copy turbo's that bad?
yeah count paul does seem to know what he's talking about, very helpful as is your own advice and everyone thats replied. im thinking my standard LET injectors will be useless for that sort of power so whats everyone using? will my standard loom with ph5 chips work ok? ideally wanting to go standalone but cant afford it yet

Take it from me, never buy a second hand used turbo. End up costing you more in the long run. That kne Browneys linked up is a bargain.

As for injectors VXR's.

Again Paul very true they have usually been removed for a reason! And that link Browney posted is were my money would be also they are excellent turbos!

ID0102E code t34 turbo, would this be a.48? been offered a virtually new one for a reasonable price

The turbine housing A/R will be printed on the turbine housing simply stating A/R .48 etc

The code you have given could just be a casting number

AlanH

ar.42 on the inlet side and

p/n 465809-5012s

Count Vaux Alot

The A/R number could also be printed inside the turbine housing inlet (were the exhaust flange is) like this pic
