u know when fitting a 2l in a nova u have to hammer the chassis leg to allow the alternator to fit, can you just cut a section out or will that weaken it too much?

I've seen some conversions where a small area is cut out and a box section welded in, haven't heard of any problems with regards to being too weak. The job has gotta be spot on though.

Regards.

you could have a after market jap alternator fitted at the front of the block (there smaller) so there is no need for cutting

yeah i've heard about welding a recess and i know most people just hammer a recess but both of these methods reduce the space in the arch at the other side which must cause problems when the cars got big wheels. just wondered if anyone had just cut a big hole and left it at that.

its the inner chassis leg u modify - it should affect wheels in the arches?

if you do cut a section out it must be filled and welded with something suitable you cannot leave a gap

When we d9id mine, we cut a slit, knocked it in and welded it back up.

mine didnt need this mod either. i think that if a certain type of *attachment* to the block is used from certain xe's, the clearance is greater.
wot is a better word for *attachment*? :? mind blank, but can picture the small metal bar in me head.

Nice. Did you Just give it a micro adjust with say a microadjustment tool (wacked it with a hammer)! I supose thats a cheap and easy way of doing it. Like asked though does this not fowl on the tyres with big wheels??

you should cut it out and weld new box section in i repair chassis for a living and by just bashing them in you leave a weakend strees point if you have an accident that is where it will bend

i stuffed mine into the back of a wagon there was no extra stress placed on that area.... the area that is dented is very strong anyway with all the double skinning and it's behind the crash limiters

speaking of repairing
