I've seen some people put Sikaflex into there engine mounts
Why is this ?
Does it give any advantages for anything ?
Cheers, Vaughan :)

No real advantages vaughan just makes them stiffer so when theres an XE or anything hanging from them it dosent move around as much.

Ahh right I see :)
It stops the engine moving around so much, which stops it from fighting to come out when beating Saxos off the lights etc. I used them on my 1.6 8v and the improvement was good, do it!

Did you get proper ones or Sikaflex up the original mounts lol ?

Hmm i might try this if theres improvement to be had as ive just fitted an XE to mine but left the mounts as they were.

i find the proper ones are just to hard lol
make your own, slightly floppy ones are better lol
I got some brand new mounts and filled them with Tigerseal, which is polyurathene based I believe. So you can say "I have poly engine mounts" if you don't wanna make it sound so pikey lol They were perfect on my 1.6, good fit being std and didn't vibrate through the car too much.
Got some proper solid TAS ones to go on when the XE is fitted though.

I quite fancy doing it when I put the engine into the Mk1 :)
Just wanted to see the point and if there was any gains to be had
i put them on my last xe and it was spot on. Used to hit the rad/bulkhead. Filled mounts up with tigerseal and it was great, handled alot better as well throwing it into corners
I've got the proper competion mounts and there is no movement in the engine what so ever, slight downside of a bit of vibration in the car and louder engine noise but I love them.

They'll do any engine ?
They have a few benefits, one of which is that the engine is now solid in the bay, so when your cornering if you touch the throttle, the engine moving about isnt going to upset the cars balance, if you get me.
Id definently fit some, you can feel the difference imo. Yes the car vibrates on idle, but its fine when your driving.
Mine were only £90 brand new, full set.
The ONLY downside is fitting the bastids lol

I'm tempted to get them - Just need to save up for them :)
For which car? Your 1.2i?
On a small block, unless your tracking it, i wouldnt bother. Unless you find some for cheap.
You see the biggest difference with more power/bigger engines.

Nope the 1.4 8v T40 Nova mate
I wouldn't go to the bother of changing anything on the Mk2 lol
christ £228 from HH :tard:
I am quite tempted by those Pro-Tec mounts, price isn't too bad and they look quite decent.
yip ive got them on my 1.6 gsi, not the worst to fit but look at this kit too

Is there any reason for the massive price difference?
That's what I thought lol
walden from up your way were good for nova stuff but they dont do novas now:(
Aye now Clark Motorsport, I was going to give them a shout and see if they had any old Walden stock left over but i've got a feeling they wont.
i phoned a couple of months back and got the,, oh no we dont do nova parts, there too old, it mitshibushi we deal with.
Yeah thought so, shame, there's nowhere else I know off around here that are even remotely interested in Vauxhall's.

I've the same they made a massive difference when setting off but yes they do rattle the dash a fair bit. I poly bushed my exhaust to get rid of the rattle.
i just turned the radio up lol lol

I gradually got deaf with the rattle, not so bad now lol
i just turned the radio up lol lol
Radio and Nova ?
NO :p lol
In a my nova I needed a radio, there were more squeaks than a mouse in a cheese factory lol.

NO :p lol
but your still a girl, you have a dash lol

Take the interior out :p
Best of both worlds, much harder but not to hard and a c**t to fit.

Squeeks and rattles are easily sorted, remove the whole interior ;) lol lol
but your still a girl, you have a dash lol
The only reason i still have a dash is:
A-I cant remove it now due to the cage
B-The loom/clocks etc just looks messy as fcuk with the dash not fitted.
The only dash-less cars ive seen that look good are Dans and Pauls
Full original gsi interior no rips burns or tears mono wheel, digi dash and a loud alpine sterio FTW.
1 seat, roll cage & dash FTW

GSi interior - Check
Good condition - Check
Mono wheel - Never heard of it lol
Digidash - Check
Alpine Stereo - Nope, standard Nova stuff FTW
Lol mono, it's almost like a sterio one :)
typo I meant momo,

On the Mk2 - Just standard mate, it's my daily runner
Benn - Yes, just a standard Vx CD player, standard front speakers and 2 Kenwood 4" ones in the back
Didn't want to go sound-system mental with the Mk2 lol
No but a bit of quality is needed.

Doesn't really bother me too much to be fair
Aslong as the motor runs spot on I'm happy
On the Mk2 - Just standard mate, it's my daily runner
lol I meant on the T40 project? Reason is, I'd rather spend the money on the rack rather than the mounts if you can't get both at the same time, just bodge some tigerseal into oe mounts at the moment and get the solid ones later.

lol I guess I'm in a minority then. I bought my XE with solid mounts, but grew to hate them, everything was so noisy and rattly. I fitted a set of new original mounts last weekend and the difference is huge, so comfy and quiet now (relatively speaking lol ).
I can see the benefit on track cars, but I can't see why anyone would subject themselves to them on a road car. (and I know Vaughn's will be track biased)

sell me your solid mounts lol

I'd like a track/solid feel for the road to make it feel more chuckable and driveable and it might one day end up going round Knockhill or whatever if we could sort out a PNG Scotland Trackday as it's going to be quite a decent spec engine I'd be as well getting the full use out the car :)
Wouldnt have a solid rear and sikaflex'd front mounts give you the best of both worlds?
Also,if I bought a complete solid mount kit then id be lumbered with a unuseable n/s mount as mines going to have an f28.
i have a set of proper solid one to go on my XE but there such of a **** to fit that the last time i tried i got so pissed off and just filled my std one with some **** sealer , need to get some new mounts and fill with good tiger seal etc then sell my tas one i think haha

Filling the std mounts with sikaflex is a good half way measure for stiffening the engine up in the bay & halping the gearchange due to less engine shunt, however I have some TAS uprated mounts that shake the car (& sunroof) to bits. Thats not even the solid mounts!
So for a road car, fill them, with sealer, for a track car, take your choice IMO.
See, mine dont really rattle that much, and mine are proper solid mounts...
I've used both tas mounts and standard mounts filled with 2k windscreen adhesive. The tas mounts are harsh tbf, but are good for their purpose, but the filled mounts made my 1.2 noisy and rattly also. If you're gonna do any sort of mounts, be prepared to live with vibrations in the cabin.

Lol you don't have that much to rattle tbf ad! lol

I've a competition reat gearbox mount, and two new standard front mounts which are filled with silkoflex. Engine doesnt move at all, even when I had it on the rollers. And the vibration isnt too bad.
I found when you first start it/drive it with glued mount the vibration and feel from the road was unreal. But bar the time i was at the end of the road i didn't even notice it feel it was there.
I first did mine to stop engine movement as my alt would rub. Not i get no move ment at all, inc on the rollers. Still have none with my Let fitted.
I don't like that alot of people have to slot the rear mount when using solids...
