what belt do you use when you have lowered the alternator on a 1300?

Reference number or vehicle model is much appreciated, thanks

surely someone must have fitted twin carbs to their 1300??

I put the same one back on, fitted fine.

I made a plate to lower my bracket though rather than buying one, dunno if that makes any difference.

I also got the alternator tension adjustment slide from something else vauxhall in the scrappers to give a little extra adjustment which was needed.

i think the plate might push it further back as well. i just remember reading that the belt needs changing as the original is too long.

I think the plate I used was 3 or 4mm thick so it didn't push it back too much. I dropped the mounting holes 7cm.

I remember reading the same thing when I researched fitting my carbs, but I also read as many posts which said the original belt fitted, which mine did. Fit them, try it, if it doesn't fit get your mate to run you to an autofactors and get a longer one. Use the search, I'm sure there are posts which say what belts people have used

ok cheers pal. i have just bought a proper Nova Sport bracket but no idea how much this lowers it by?! In the process of fitting bike carbs and i need the clearance for the water pipe out of the head/manifold, but if these dont work i will be fitting twin 40s anyway.

just run a string round the pulleys & work out the length. then go to a decent motor factors or bearing & belt suppllier with your old belt & the string. then write down the part number they sell you for future reference
