View Full Version : I Hate Ebay So Much
ok som of you may remember a few days ago, i had something damaged in the post which i sold. the buyer is complaining. and went straight to ebay raising a case. and has now escalted it to ebay.
it fustrates me so much. i think i have been very fair. this is the convo so far.
Details provided by the buyer:
The item is not as described
The buyer has tried contacting you
The buyer paid on 13 Feb, 2010
The buyer contacted you through email.
The buyer did not get a response from you.
The item is damaged
Additional information:
"The controller arrived wrapped in a black bin liner which was covered in brown packing tape this was very inadequate packing as when unpacked the plastic case containing the controller was cracked in several places thereby rendering useless to me as I purchased it as a sealed collectors Item and as a gift for a friend. "
The buyer wanted:
The buyer prefers to return the item in exchange for a full refund.
my reply
as per email already sent to customer. yes the item was sent as described. black bag and tape. i have sent out many items like this with no problems. i fully understand the item may have been damaged, this is not my fault. but royal mails. i will look into how i claim some money back for the damaged goods. as to the whole gift thing, you never specified to me that it was a gift and a collectors item
their reply
I would like a full refund from you for this Item as I expected the controller to arrive in the condition it was listed in and not in the condition it was delivered to me in.I think just a black bin liner and some brown tape was hardly adequate as packing material for this type of Item.As to your comment that I did not specify that the controller was for a gift as a collectors Item this is hardly relevant as it should have been packed a lot better than it was.If you wish to claim compensation from the Royal Mail you can give me a refund and I will return the controller to you and you can send them some photos to make your claim
my reply
i am still waiting on photos. im not doing anything until i get some photos. which i think is fair. unfortunately, money doesnt hang around. so until i get the money from royal mail, your not getting any money back. sorry. if anything, you havent got a problem with me, you have a problem with royal mail who damaged your mail
then the seller escalated it to ebay to decided, and i can bet they are going to sting me. ****ers
Item FYI

If they decide in the others favour they have to return it to you. I had this but item never came back to me so paypal closed dispute and gave me money back (as they took it when dispute was opened)
I was annoyed as it was a digi box that sold for 99p and the seller opened the dispute a month after I sent it saying it was faulty - I sold it for spares/repairs but paypal still found in his favour?!
Guess it worked out ok in the end though
I have to agree with the buyer I'm afraid, it doesn't sound it was packed great, if it was something hard, I'd say fair enough, but a controller? needs bubble wrapping, sorry.

IMO, its royal mails responability as a postal service to handle my package with care, wrapped or not. yeh it was wrapped in a black bin liner. but those plastic packages are hard enough to open on xmas day. i dont see how it being thrown around will make it brake.
and i havent got pics yet, also they want a refund then will return the goods. i wasnt born yesterday lol

doesnt matter mate, its your responsibility to ensure goods arrive as DESCRIBED.
agree with let_nova
A bit of bin liner is not adequate protection for a plastic item. How would you feel if summat you bought turned up wrapped like that??
You cant blame the royal mail, you dont stand a chance.

Box, newspaper & clingfilm,
Nice and cheap most of the items are knocking about the place (well in mine they are!!) and when I say clingfilm I have posted several items out wrapped in that, it saves on tape!! Good enough for pallets good enough for a box!!
HOWEVER if it was as described when it left then you need to make this clear to eBay if they come back to you! you need to make it clear that you have requested photos for evidence that item was damaged however the buyer is requesting the item is refunded BEFORE its sent out (looks like a scam!) so that you can get your money back from RM.
Hope that you have kept all communique from the guy to show that he is appearing to attempt to scam you out of money (however little it may be!)
lol only 48 quid browney...
Remind me never to buy anything from you unless I'm collecting. lol
lol, check my feedback thread on here and ebay, i have never had a problem lol.
LOL bin liner?! WTF! If you're sending something, its your responsibility to pack it properly! I'd get shirty if someone just wrapped something I purchased in a bin bag!
All depends on how the item was described. Link is no good as the item has dipped off the radar now.
I purchased it as a sealed collectors Item
Was it described/pictured as thus? Or listed as "used"?

Tbh you both have a valid point, though sympathy is going to lie in the favour of the buyer.
I sold a bicycle hub back in the summer, I get a mail saying it has arrived & its unuseable as the flange has cracked all around & the outer edge of all the spoke holes on one side has cracked off 'you didnt list it as broken - I WANT A REFUND' says the buyer, no worries pal I say, send it back to me & I'll fire a refund via Paypal to you. I never heard another whisper. Me thinks he was trying it on. It does happen.

It does indeed happen, but if you know it was packaged the best you can then it shouldn't happen.
I always over-do wrapping stuff im yet to ever have a problem selling anything.
you hate ebay because you cant package goods properly ?
Even if Pat didn't play footy with it at the depot, it still gets thrown down chutes and into vans. Other stuff piled on it etc. lol

The reason BMX is going to hate EBay is.....
in order to get compensation from royal mail a form needs to be filled in, royal mail will then contact the buyer to verify the item arrived broken, of course, by this time paypal would have already refunded the buyer, so the buyer won't be arsed replying to the letter

If i'd been in that situation would have been more then shouted at, i'd of got him fired!!
That must have been worth a bomb and some little scrote is using it as a toy sword??

I had five parcels apparently go missing on ebay. I filled out the forms from the post office and got refunded for all the items plus postage happy days. There were more people but i sent them a form were they have to sign to say it was lost and that was a legal document a few never replyed and canceled there dispute.
Ebay is full of morons tbf, i've recently sold an f20 gearbox and an xe manifold, both auctions clearly stated that there was no postage. Guess what? they both now want them posting! The guy with the gearbox didn't make any sort of contact for 7 days, can't i just fukk him off?
unpaid item disputes can be opened after 7 days John.Do that,on the grounds of no contact.
Which reminds me,i sold a cooker on ebay t'other day, blokey asks if he could collect at weekend? Saturday morning is best for me bla bla heres my address and phone number i say.
That was thursday night,no reply yet so fukk knows if hes coming this morning.200 odd positives so you wouldnt think he is a messer!
I wont be happy if he just shows up,and plus ive got loads to do so i arent sitting around waiting like a dingy all day.

its a problem because he might buy tons of stuff from ebay, meaning that people can only leave +ve feedback!!
I once had a guy buy a heatermatrix off me, was cheap (1.99 i think!) and never got any communications from him for 2 weeks, never got payment, I opened a dispute and he never said anything on there, he eventually stumped up the £3 or something I wanted and he got it sent to him, had to leave +ve feedback because of the new stupid eBay rulings! just left a message saying to avoid despite not many people read it.
That was the stupidest thing ebay have ever done taking away the option for sellers to leave neg.
Imagine you were selling a car and the blokes who came to collect it had a crap in your neighbours watering can or summat,or did a line of coke off your doorstep.
How could you warn others that the user was a complete jockey? you cant complain to ebay as they wouldnt care.

They did it becaue people were threatening leaving -ve feedback in order to get more money or various other things out of buyers.
its a pain and very stupid............. perhaps a campaign to get it put back correctly so sellers can leave -ve and neutral feedback
a small update on the original case, the case was closed and a refund was given from ebay to the buyer, but none of us were in the wrong

Not entirely true IMO. You wrapped the item (you dont say what it was, link doesnt show an item) poorly. If you had taken some time to wrap it better, this could have been avoided.
it is true, as this is what ebay have said.
it could of been avoided yes, it could also of been avoided if royal fail hadnt played footy with it.
and the item was a brand new xbox 360 halo 3 controller, still in its hard plastic casing.

Its not like any old box&packing material costs much to avoid this sort of thing. I've always over-packed anything I've sent & charged accordingly. There was only one exception to that which was when I sent an F13CR cluster to garyc - I boxed it but didn't have any packing material.
^ Exactly. Big/strong/solid stuff like a gearbox, manifolds etc don't need much packing but smaller items that are easily damaged should be appropriately packed - yes bubble wrap costs money, but simply add the cost to the postage & packing price that the seller pays. TBH I think you got away lightly there!
best packaged package I got was from Mike on here, few E16 sensors in a box about big enough to hold say a normal size football full of paper shredding (Rooted through those for some info on criminal happenings and card numbers but no luck :() I actually had to search through it all to find the bits! lol
Always send my stuff out in bubble wrap/brown paper apart from the odd exception, sent a loom just in a slightly more sturdy than usual cardboard box but unless royal fail attack it with side cutters it's not going to do any harm lol
Considering the hard plastic box in this case is actually more relevant as part of the item of interest than 'packaging' I think sending it out in just a bin bag is taking the pee a bit tbh.

jack, ill admit yes i got away lightly. im lucky.
and second, you say add the cost of postage and packaging to the postage price. thats a tad difficult when ebay makes you send it for free.
when i listed the auction, i started it for a tenner and 2.50 postage, it didnt let me put in postage, so i had to put a higher start price for 12.50. in this instance i was able to do this and the item sold for alot more. sometimes 2.50 would mean an item not selling.

I here you on that point TBH. Fooks me right off....why are we forced to offer free postage in certain categories?
But i do add abit extra on my P+P postage prices on ebay stuff. Jiffy envelopes, tape, etc doesnt come for free. I havent had a buyer query it yet either. lol tempted fate now!!!
i get bubble wrap from work :D and card, and tape, if you but stuff off me dont be suprised if it has Advanced Metals or Smiths Metals Centre tape all over it ;)

I sell on ebay every day as i have a car accessories shop on there and i can confirm that ebay is mostly just a pain in the fcuking ass! People either:
>Buy something on a saturday and then message me on the wed screaming at me about not haveing recieved there item yet!?
>Message me asking "wot my best price is" despite the fact its a multible listing with a BIN price per x1 item
>Foreigners buy things from me without asking about international postage (it clearly states that its not offered!) and then get assy with me in bad english when i refused to post it abroad and i then have to seek a final value fee back!
>And then as mentioned above by others, people buy things and then claim they hav'nt received it and open a claim but then run a mile when you ask for pics/say you have tracking info
And finally people just genrally being rude as fcuk to me! The customer may always be right BUT that dos'nt give any of them the right to be abusive/rude/in some cases even swear at me! I would'nt have somebody speak to me like that face2face so there fcuked if im gonna let it happen on ebay!
Sorry for the massive rant but i've been wanting to get that off my chest for ages and i feel alot better now :)
