right the nova WAS turning over the other day and now it isnt  got the battery charger on it with the fast start switch on so lots of power
i did notice that the earth wire that iirc should be on the starter motor..?
is on the engine would this cause it not to turn over properly or not atall..?
i put a earth from chassis to gear box so would it be worth taking the starter off and wiring it up with a earth..?

On the 8v I've just done the earth from the starter is bolted to the bottom of the inlet manifold ;)

Start and alt loom has an earth, this is what I've earthed out on the bottom of the inlet, it works fine as the car starts and drives.

so thats just an engine earth then. still means the starter earths through the engine

i tried beating the starter up
have no plugs in
and it just doesnt do anythink tried putting it in gear and turning it but all it does is make a electrical charge noise if you get what i mean

if you spend too long with the engine spinning up with no plugs in, then the starter can jam open. they don't like revving too fast, they need some physical resistance to make them work properly.

and fast charging a battery is not the best way. sometimes its best to leave one trickle charging for 24hrs to get it built right up

If youve got a gearbox to chassis strap then the earth should be fine. But yes later novas did have a direct battery to starter earth cable to get rid of the ****ting box earth strap that loves to break.,

its got numbers on it but they rubbed off and cant find them anywere else i.e inside or out but i looked on a pic on good old wiki and found the engine and copied the leads from that and it now runs but still has a misfire

It needs a Mars bar to fix it

if the cap is that old the numbers have rubbed off it probably needs a new one
