Im sick of getting the wire wheel out on beams etc. So i thought it would be a good idea to start making a sand blasting contraption lol Im not very well of these days so buying one was out of the question.

We had a pile of stainless steel sheets that came back from offshore about 6 months ago that i knew would come in handy for this "project". I might be able to make some small cash from this to get the nova finished so its full steam ahead lol

Pile of stainless sheets:

Some of my welding, thought i should teach myself how to weld. I was chuffed with the outcome :d

Stitched together:

And the box together, still some work to do but you get the idea

The welder ran out of gas so it was game over. Rollable trolley next.

Comments and ideas welcome.

I spent some more time on this tonight :)

My workmate gave me some hinges that will do the job, so they were bolted onto the lid.

It was then time to cut out some holes in the top so i could see what i was blasting lol so out came the marker pen.

Then the grinder..... took a while!

Then i would some rubber trim to tidy up the cut edges on the side.

2 1/2 hours into the lid build it was tea time :d

Perspex time.............. cut out squares slightly larger than the holes in the top. Then marked and drilled the holes for the bolts.

Was getting bored of the brush holding open the lid lol so i went and sourced some exhaust flap wires. Done the job nicely.

Still have a stand to make but that might have to wait. I already have 4 sets of wheels to do and 2 rear beams lol I need to finish this to make money for the nova to be finished lol

Good idea to make money, I was going to buy a sand blaster and bodge together some form of container to blast in but my lack of compressor put a pisser on that idea lol

Lol, know what your saying. I have a compressor at work so i only have to spend on the blast gun etc. It was just a case of finding time to make a box that will do the job :d Total build cost so far £0.00 and 8 hours of my time.

Yeah thats what i thought. Think it will cloud over time due to the grit hitting the perspex. But i have plenty and it wont take long to change.

Cool. I was thinking the same about the perspex, glass ftw, also the actual cabinet may get blasted away one day, we used to have rubber liners inside ours.

Blasting rocks though & paying for it sucks!

Very small update.

Had to make something to hold the lid down. Nice and simple does it lol

Springs, washers and bolts, cant get any more simple.........

Bolted the springs to the lid

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s3/novalovingned/NovaNew036.jpg

Then 25mm bolts through the side to catch the other end of the spring. The thread of the bolt acts like a catch when the spring is extended and wrapped round it.

And done, took a couple of minutes to do and will work well
