when i get round to rebuilding my engine what are the best options for a E16SE? and dont give me the standard answer of xe it , let it etc etc, that will be done on my spare shell, i do have an xe full engine and all the gubbins but want to keep it 1600

so TB's, T2 turbo, ideas please.

if i search e16se it brings up a load of sh*t that aint relevent to my interests, the search facility could be better, some members help buy putting guides on there sig, like mike with the turbo fitting guide, also there aint no tunning forum here either or an ask the experts so im asking the members instead. :)

Cam, exhaust system and if you can stretch to it some decent pistons, not sure on standard rods but if you wanted to rev it higher some rods would be ideal and some ARP rod bolts as there is nothing worse than spending cash on an engine for a rod to snap, game over.

ive got a full mongoose ss exhaust, and when tuning it'll be full bore, not just a tickle, the rest of the car is going to be pretty well spec'd up it has, quick rack with alloy mounts, compition engine mounts, full front end plating kit, bias pedal box, seam welding from the underside so you dont see it in the bay area, rear discs, rear arb,

parts i have to go on are full group A bilstein tarmac coilovers, works type uniballs, new set of poly bushies, 308 discs and 4 pots.

so i dont want a big stoopid heavy engine to spoil my little go-cart lol

Sounds canny like, cam, remap, exhaust, port and polish, and some decent pistons should see it alright. Carbs would be a good addition but they're thirsty.

just looking at mikes guide there, not to keen on the spacer plate, i'll look into lowering compresion a bit more. if a escort rst 1600cvh can get 244 bhp i would like 200 in mine lol.

Would be alot of work to get 200bhp I imagine.

That's doable,

Chap with the silk violet onE in projects ( Mike c I think )
has 200bhp out of his, on dta management iirc.

Craig Green had 180bhp on standard ecu.

ive got the group a clubman rally car build manual and was going to follow the engine spec in it but iirc its only about 150 bhp.

Get a turbo on it much more fun IMO

Flowed head & cam basically. But that will cost you the price of an XE. Its upto you, but 125bhp is your limit, 150bhp with an XE is out the box... I'm all for small blocks but takes your choice. 150bhp is doable on carbs with lots of work.

Put your money into a decent gearbox with a diff & you will see better rewards.

spastic, there is the Mechanical forum you retard.

From Big Russ days 170bhp is the 'limit' for a 1.6 8v (bear in mind to get from the 140/150 of a good not hugely expensive build to the 170 is EMMENSE money, you can get more than 170 but its the point of mega cost for little return)

Of course that was N/A. Imho it would be fairly 'easy' to get 200bhp Turbo'd for sensibleish money and built from new proper(ish) parts, rather than the scrapheap challenge lots seem to try and abandon as it dosent work right.

Yes, Wilsons was an 8vT, Craigs is now a 16v motor IIRC. He did used to have an 8vT, but wilson bought it off him IIRC???

My 8v turbo did end up in Wilsons car, its had about 4 owners since I sold it, only Wilson actually ran it. Laughably it seems to have gone up in price everytime it has changed hands.
Mike C's is Nova Neils old engine, which was the same spec as mine but Neil put the DTA standalone on it. See his car in features (turbo's).
