Hey,
Been looking into buying a Astra Coupe 2.0 .
I wanted to hear your opinions of these cars . I have looked around online and people seem to talk very highly of them.
I have about the 3k - 3.5k to pick up a new car , so the average engine mileage is around 70k -100k
I have heard that the turbo can cause problems....Is this just with Modified ones ? I'm not looking to modify it in anyway (Hope to put it down under a company car for the insurance)
Similar cars I'm looking at are:
Alfa GTV , VW Corrardo , Fiat Turbo, Audi coupe ect ect...
Cheers for any information !
Regards
Tom
I had a mk 4 astra gsi, nothing but trouble tbh,
Got it on 54k full service etc, had a brand new turbo on it when I picked it up.
Seals went after 5k even with me looking after it,
Afm are a known problem,
As is the stem seals,
A good car for everyday use but with problems.
If I were to get another mk4 I'd go for the 2.2

Cheers for that,
I've done a little further digging and found a similar trend.
I did consider the 2.2 , just didn't float my boat as much..hmmm
I picked up my 2.2 coupe with 128k fvsh 1 owner and the chain had been done.
All this for £1700.
Ive done nearly 5k since the start of December and its never missed a beat.

Z20LEt are pants IMO, knowing Edds & few others. The chassis is dull too, so I personally would opt for a Honda (civic R) or Failing that a Focus ST170 perhaps. Pretty dull but from behind the wheel, actually feels alive. That is what counts right?
Hendix has had nemurous issues with his Coupe Turbo. My mate has had similiar. Put me right off buying one.
My dads 53 astra 2.0 turbo went bang last week he has had it since new.
let go while doing 70 :) on the motorway.
Turbo has just gone with 52k on the clock.
had 2x gearboxes one at 28k & 48k
Afm has broken 3 times.
steering rack & cracked susp arms
handbrake kept rusting solid
Needs new brake pipes as they are badly rusted.
The feature where the windows drop slightly to allow you to open the doors is a nitemare as when they go wrong you cant open your doors lol
cost £2000k + in in repairs in the last 2 years.
great fun when they work but pricey when they break.

Apart from the gorgeous looks of the GSi hatch & the fact the seats look quite nice from the outside (painfull on long runs imo) they arent worth getting excited over. I wouldnt dismiss the mk4 as in terms of being a good car, but when it comes to the turbo's, they arent as good as they should be.
