I've started reconditioning the 360's wheels and was wondering if someone (Southie? lol) would shop the spokes a few different colours please?

They're in standard silver atm but I was wanting body coloured, anthracite and I guess black. Or any other (non lairy) combos you can come up with, including painting the rim (they are polished atm)

As it turns out I don't have many suitable pics lol

Yeah I know mate. I smashed it with the jet wash brush when cleaning the valance. Shame as they're the original dealer plates.

I want the white/yellow raised black plastic letter style - but not at £60!
I've only found one place selling them. :(

Ive just done a set of wheels in House of kolor galaxy grey (sparkly anthrecite) with BMW diamond black rims. they would look awesome on that!

lol Connor. You don't mate. 17/18mpg and a welded diff soon gets old! :thumb:

Sounds interesting mate. Just what I'm after. :) I dunno if I CBA with repolishing them as they corrode again in next to no time.

Just realised, the top pic looks anthracite/almost body coloured due to the shadows. So I guess that one can go black or silver? lol

dont do black.. i'd go for body colour.

and use winter steelies.. youre killing lovely wheels by letting them corrode like that.

Winter wheels my good man!
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/Dusty%20Drifter/c5bedf01-1.jpg?t=1266576103
I didn't change them straight away when the snow came as I CBA and wanted to see how bad it was for grip - terrible lol.
Plus they were already as corroded when I bought them as they are now.:thumb:

I like the sound of body coloured spokes, a black lip would match the bumpers/mirrors etc. I do like things to match.
I just wonder if they would look 'cheap' or even smaller. lol

mayhem
19-02-10, 10:53 AM
lol, in that case.. give them a good refurb incl. polishing the lips ;)

black makes them look smaller, i had my borbet T's in matblack, and the deepdish look was completely gone.

L14MNP
19-02-10, 11:01 AM
I get what you're saying about the dish disappearing. :(

There's two reasons I was unsure about repolishing. The first is corrosion, but seeing as I own them now they won't see any more bad weather so I suppose they should stay in reasonable condition.

The second reason is they are all curbed, some with little nicks etc that would have to be ground right the way back. What's the deal with these when refurbing polished, just live with them? I want a nice finish but not ar$ed about 100% perfect - unless it's easily acheivable.

As for repolishing. I'll probs do it gehtto style by jacking the back of the car up and running the engine.

Your Lolvos a funking beast! What are they like to drive, and to drive sideways? I considered buying one months back, but was put off by the simple reason i thought they wouldnt drift easily enough, im not an amazing drifter

L14MNP
23-02-10, 10:42 PM
Cheers man. TBH when standard they are a lovely drive. They feel very modern, and if you buy a 360 (mine) with a 2.0 Volvo engine (especially the early models, again like mine) they are nice and torquey and by no means sluggish. Or you can buy the more common 340 which comes with Renault 1.4 and 1.7 engines and do as a lot of the lads have and drop a 1.8 16v Clio motor in - plenty fun to be had then!

They will slide no bother in the wet and if you clutch kick then they will go on some dry surfaces too. I like the fact that they only step out when you want them too. The steering is awesome at self centering and has extended lock compared to Sierras, E30's etc.

Since welding the diff, Land Rover Defender 90 front shocks on the rear with 2" lowering blocks and chopped front springs with 80/90w oil in the front shocks and the Superlites mine has become a different animal. It will hold a slide so much longer now and goes that much easier, again though it's only when you really ask it to.

The only annoying thing is the wheel hop you get when slow cornering/parking etc. Well worth the annoyance for the grin factor!

I by no means adore these cars. I just think they're ideal for a bit of a laugh, and are so cheap compared to other things. Do it. You won't be disappointed mate.

Wish i bought one now! Will definatly have to consider it when i get rid of my Golf.

I especialy like yours beacuase of its looks. Looks smart and tidy, not like your average beat up Jap/JDM/J-tin rookey drifter.

Thats websites pretty cool too!

Yeah do it for a bit of budget beater fun! The mk2 like mine is harder to acquire, but I dig all the chrome lol. Worth getting one if you see one come up. The best all rounder is a mk3 GLT though. Good spec, EW, EM, heated seats etc. and stiffer rear springs.

They look more like a 'modern' car though with their bigger colour coded bumpers etc.

Yeah I like to keep it tidy. Helps keep me under the radar for when I might have let it go round a greasy roundabout lol. Also people don't pay it ANY attention when on the winter wheels, unlik if I had them orange with a matt bonnet and loads of shocker stickers and other scene crap lol.

You sound like a man of taste, and the old cnuts on there will love you - until you tell them you want to drift it. lol
Oh yeah, watch out for a guy called VND on there! He uses the PM system like MSN messenger! lol

Yeh i did look briefly for 360 last night, i found all of 1, and it had too many doors, dont really fancy a 5 door. Ive never really noticed the specs, but i remember when i was younger, from the age of about 6-12, my best friends mum had a GLT, and it had a lot of equipment for an old car.

I think a lot of people wouldnt show most volvos attention, thats the problem with the car scene today, its all about badges and price tags, not about the effort put in, or ingenuity gone into building a car. My mate is a perfect example, laughs when i show him older Volvo saloons, Cortinas and MGB GT's, however, he drives a flat arch 106!

Ill have to register i reckon, see what the forums like. Ive registered on so many forums now its unreal!

Also, ive never been in a car with a welded diff, is it really that bad? I pictured every corner with a tyre dragging, or like you said hop, does it occer on every corner would you say?

Aye, most of them have too many doors, and nearly every GLT does lol.
The lack of attention is a good thing though IMO. Your mate needs a slap! Show him the turbo charged e39 M5 powered 244. Though if he can't respect an original MGB, Cortina etc I get the feeling everything old is crap in his eyes! lol @ the 106. Does he never get have trouble with it?
He will become an instant convert once you show him that grandads V300 can hang the tail out with the best of them - I have changed the opinion of about six people myself.

You don't notice the dragging/hop at higher speed cornering as they are both travelling at a higher speed obviously. It's just tight roundabouts, U turns, parking etc. It sounds like it wants to shake the drive train to bits and makes you look a total noob if in the presence of 'ordinary' car owners. lol
The noise on shiny tarmac or painted surfaces can be embarrassing, squeak squeak squeak... lol

As for the whole welded diffs will kill you and an orphanage full of kittens that is a load of BS. Drive it sensibly and you will be fine. The only time mine has been uber twitchy in wet conditions was when I had the seats dropped and the whole back filled with about 200kg of crap. When empty or with just people in the rear seats it's no bother.

Lol, so far hes not really had any problems with his 106, other than his brakes, clutch, wheel bearing, front shock and an oil leak, i mean, other than that, shes a goodun! Ive seen a 240 with a v8 turbo? Have some serious traction problems on launch!

Talking about MGB's. Theres one that drives around here, i dont know if its around on the web, ive not seen it. Anyway, ive never seen under the bonnet, but at a guess id say it runs a 4.9 RV8, mostly fibreglass body and runs on either real high octane or alchohol/petrol mix. I followed him to RS Combe last year when i had my 3i. He was pounding all the Cossies and Focus RS's, there was only 2 things on par with the MG, the Reyland escos, and a claimed 700bhp Focus RS

Ill have to give it a go someday, i dont drive often anyway, i use my van for most journeys, so the Golf i have now only gets used twice a week just for pleasure. All i need to do is find a decent Volvo........and a c20xe..........and type 9......... :)
