any ideas on how,

you have a screw for the throttle, and one for the choke,

if you turn the ignition on with the pan cake off, pump the throttle, is the choke butterfly supposed to move,

i have to start it, and keep 'blipping' the throttle for 30seconds for the choke to go over

theres three screw on the cover for the auto choke, slacken them off, and it should wind one way or the other, basically adding or removing tension from the spring. if you do it too tight and it takes agen to turn itself off, unscrew and wind back a touch. TBH if the butterfly is taking ages to move it might be the linkage is stiff, worth giving it a clean and grease to get it movinh free.

word of advice, do NOT take the cover off the autochoke unit, as it will never ever ever ever go back together properly (i speak from experiance lol)

spray the knackers out of the linkage spring and tw4t the choke casing with a mallet, then get an industrial sized mining drill down thru the cam cover and out the bottom of the block, jobs a good'un lol

it has a bimetallic strip that moves when it gets warm... its the bit everyone thinks is a spring.

anyway, you told me that a carbar near you still stocked manual choke kits... or have you been barred from there???

Press the throttle fully once before starting. Should then be fine.

General Baxter
18-02-10, 07:38 PM

Adam

Afaik the pre-heat thing heats up the carb to help it start if the weather/air is freezing.
A bit like a derv glow plug.

righty ho, iv just had a play, i really should of checked this before i started the thread, choke works fine, i think it just needs adjustment,

turned the ignition on, went back to the engine, 1 pump of the throttle choke went here
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a191/baxters83/SDC10077.jpg
it struggled, i closed the flap a little more with a screwdriver, got mom to start fired stright up, little high on the rpm, but that can be sorted,

after 1min, let the flap go, gave it a rev, flap opens fully, idles nice :)

So what you saying? It works ok if you manually move the choke flap???

General Baxter
18-02-10, 08:16 PM
yep, so i think its not pulling it far enough, as its hitting the little adjust bar lol

running a little rich, the house has filled up, should of shut the front door lol

dont really want to play with it tonight, theres a blizzard out side

Adam
18-02-10, 08:27 PM
Do you know what the real solution is??

he have repair and choke :)

started first turn of the key, tick over a little high once warm but nothing an adjust wont cure

so how did you fix/ adjust it, just with force moving the flap.

General Baxter
19-02-10, 05:26 PM
i adjusted it,

which was really ****ing difficult two bloody screws

General Lee
19-02-10, 05:28 PM
sweet, where are these two screws, i need to do mine.

General Baxter
19-02-10, 05:33 PM
if you look at the linkage you will see them,

id start by making sure it even moves lol

General Lee
19-02-10, 06:14 PM
m kay. Should it move freely with minimal effort.

General Baxter
19-02-10, 06:17 PM
take the pan cake off, turn the ignition back on, go back to the carb, and give the throttle a full stoke, the choke flap should move

could try heating the spring up cherry red and quenching it in a certain position, might give it its strength back
