What sealent to get for good seal for between the rear main bearing cap and engine block. Cheap stuff tend to leak so would like advice on what people have used in past with no leaks. Thanx

Rtv is oil ressiant.

Its used on sumps and such. Vauxhall sell it. Its about 4quid a tube on tc.

I take it thats what they would use then. As the stuff that was there originaly is a pig to get off so very affective. thanx

thasts the stuff. But my friend used it on a re built xe and it wasnt much cop

Give it time dry before you fill the sump with oil

Its not for the sump gasket, but do you mean seal the rear main bearing then leave for a couple of days then sump on with oil in? I need to get this right at I dont fancy taking everything out because of a little oiul leak. Thanx

Yeah, use a bit on the sump gasket too

And de grease the faces you are putting it on. Some carb or brake cleaner should do it. I have known a few people who have sealed onto an oily surface, then wondered why it leaked.
