isit worth me having my crank knife edeged as im about 2 have it balanced for my c20let rebuild.. i have steel rods low compression pistons lightweight pully/flywheel clutch etc.. im building a fast road track car (350bhp) but would still like some reliabilty.. will knife edgeing shorten life span of engine?

knife edging is similar to a lightened flywheel..... wont change the reliability and only of need if you plan to rev the tits off it.

imho I wouldnt bother

its guna have a fair bit of reving, standard crank weighs a ton lol isit expensive to have done?

will you NEED to rev it? if you spec the engine properly you shouldnt need to rev a turbo engine...

dont bother waste of money, buy an early crank if want it too rev abit more, lighter than the later ones. my mates are running 4-450bhp on stock cranks with no messing about

Does anyone know roughly what weight they would be able to safely remove from a standard crank??

not sure, but why? ive got a stock early XE crank in my Xe and that should be fine for 8.5k peak my motor should make. i wouldnt worry, its more of a 'spec' list jobby imo

ok thanx think il just stick with standard crank.. are the early crankshafts on the square tooth model of the c20let? any1 kno how much the lighter version shud weigh as i dont kno wots previously been played with on my engine and want to build it right 1st time round :thumb:

just as a quick note, my arrow crank is heavier than the standard one so it must say something ! i wouldnt bother imo

its all about the balance..

I read an article about K series 'balanced' cranks from the 'pros'... under rotation some of them exerted the same force as if it weighed 30Kg while others while rotating exerted no more force than its static weight.
