lol !Proper 1990's style thread alert! lol

I tried to eject the tape out of the headunit in the Nova yesterday, and it doesn't.

The headunit is a standard GSi one, a Philips SC804.

When ejecting, the cassette moves up to the hole, but then drops down again.

I've tried coaxing it out with a screwdriver, but it's just not going to happen.

Does anyone know what's broken and how to fix it?

open it up and once you take the cover off you should see how it works and what the fault is.

No **** sherlock.

Yes i know i'll be taking it out and opening it up at some stage.

but before I do that, has anyone already done it, so i know what to look for.

The eject mechanism is not mechanical as such, so it might not be obvious when it's in bits.

Hence this thread.

Quality.

See my sig. lol It is that original.

All i've added to the car is central locking to the boot and a tape holder. :thumb:

Lol, it's now worse.

The grub screws that blank off the holes one's been screwed down into the hole so is stopping the key releasing the clip, and a clip the other side wont release.

Looks like i'll have to leave it unlocked for someone to remove it for me.

Retro coolness.

Forget how to repair the headunit.

How the hell do i get it out now.

For some reason i treat this car with kid gloves.

Sorted it.

Managed to get it out, after taking everything i could off the left side of the dash.

Took the headunit appart and couldn't see any issues, so i've lubricated the eject mechanism and all seems to be O.K.

OEM tape HU's. OK for the look - but that's where it ends IMO.

Yep, and that's why i want it to work.

Keep the car as original as possible. Not worried about sound quality, i have my system in my daily driver for that.

Also, i have a large selection of 80's/90's tapes and have no tape player at home.

So driving the Nova (and Lotus Carlton) gives me chance to listen to them. :thumb:

Picked a spare Philips SC804 up today at the VBOA spares day just in case....:p

i had this prob on an old sony unit of mine last week, had to take it apart to get the cassette out.

it still works but the automatic mechanism's far from smooth now, and you have to help the tape in and out.

i dont know how many times it'll be able to cycle in and out before it kills itself, so im leaving tapes in there a week at a time to try get the most out of it lol

Yes, it does. It's a single CD unit under the standard tape Headunit.
