View Full Version : Idle control valve location
I have no idea where the idle control valve on my 1991 Nova GSI, its doing my head in, cant find it in the Haynes manual either.
as you look into the engine bay from the front it's on the back of the block on the LHS usually, bolted to the engine with 2 pipes coming out of it and an ecu plug.
Cheers I'll have a look, the engine isnt idling well at all.

Check for any holes in the rubber inlet pipe between AFM & TB. It'll idle awfully if that is splitting.

Throttle body. The butterfly by which air is allowed into the engine, you press the accelerator pedal & it opens via a cable. ;)
I know what a throttle body is, didnt know the terminology. I think that pipe is ok.

I wasnt takin the pish, just being my usual dictionary of PC nonsense.
Make sure it is, remove it & inspect it for cracks etc. Likewise any leak in the inlet will hurt the idle, so you can spray some carb or brake cleaner around when its running, if a leak sucks it in you'll hear it as the idle speeds up.
Ok cheers, I'll remove it and have a look.
Well, can't see any splits in the rubber inlet pipe, and as the Idle control valve is a sealed unit, I dunno what I can do there either, made it idle a bit better by adjusted that small nut on the valve, and adjusted the idle speed on the inlet manifold, but I think I'm cheating and there is some other unlying problem.
Its got a Pipercross induction kit on it, wonder if thats messing up the idle.
Induction kit isnt messing it up, put a normal airbox on it, also revs drop a lot when I switch on lights, blower etc............
