Front hub nuts are always a pain to get off if they haven't been taken off in years, i suffered the same, i had a metre bar over a breaker bar and all it did was move the car then snap the breaker bar like you! in the end i took an angle grinder to the hub nut till it snapped.

and yes, Halfords have the parts you need, and a lifetime warranty!

Id call it a driveshaft nut and the rear 'hub' would be a hubnut, thats why i was confuddled:thumb:

you have to have a reciept as its life time warranty for the first owner so you need to prove you bought it as i have broken about 7 of thos bars and needed to have it

yeah you need the receipt in my local halfords too. they swapped it for me the 1st three times, but after that they got a bit pi$$ed off so they started asking for receipts

Jon_nova1
14-02-10, 07:12 PM
lol suppose they prey on the ones that throw receipts straight in the bin....which is most of us lol

erm, is that a plasma cutter? i don't think it will do whats needed, he only wants the nut off, not the whole hub lol

if you go in and look like a crazy ****er then no receipt needed. i remove all mine with a 12" t bar and an old bike seat post for some leverage and they come off :D

NEVER USE A RATCHET FOR THIS TASK
the little gears in them are really weak, us the Tommy bar or a breaker bar.. I have a 2' snap on one that is about 30 years old & has been subjected to some serious abuse, and it just keeps working....

but i'd personally use our 3/4 drive set for that job

Mike

I normally use a 3ft long Torque wrench set to 350lb/ft with a 2ft scaffhold tube slotted over the end of it. Only gotta lean on it an the nut cracks off.

halfords need a recept (sp lol)

high mod'd breaker bar ftw! (welder up end welder turned right up) with pole on the end.

We also have a old snap on rachet at work that we welded to a huge pole, it gets so much abuse its unreal. Amazingly though the teeth dont slip. lol

or you could also buy a inch impact gun ill try and find a picture of the one i mean lol

edit : Although i prefer the one without the long "neck" it weakens the torque if you have a long neck

might need to be this type of guy to hold it though

tommy bars are way stronger than cheapo breaker bars.......

http://home.comcast.net/~alloy-artifacts/Photos/tools/williams_12dr_s20a_breaker_t_slider_f_cropped.jpg

there is more metal at the joint than on the hinge on a breaker bar

Bubba
15-02-10, 07:26 PM
ohhhh slider bar, i could try that.
