if this is a repost then do delete.

every so often a thread will come up asking how to remove doors, the common answer always comes up is to use an old bonnet stay. thought as i was going to give it a go id do an article. so here goes.

i started off by cutting down an old nova bonnet stay to a length of 6-8inches. i had previously soaked the roll pins in wd40 to help get them out.

disconnect any wiring that goes into the doors and feed it back into the car so it doesnt get damaged.

unbolt both of the 10mm bolts that hold the check strap in place, the door will not stay open by itself anymore so mind your fingers.

support the rear half of the door with a jack or ask a friend to lift it up so it releases some pressure off the pins and wont fall on the floor when you got the pins out.

i started on the bottom pin first, this pin has to go up. place the bonnet stay on the end of the roll pin and hit, hopefully it should move and come out.

then onto the top one, this has to go down.

at this point all that is holding the door on will be the bonnet stay in the hole and the jack/friend so be careful. wiggle the bonnet stay out and hold the door. slide the door hinge out from the car and you should have one door finished.

do the same to the other side and you will have two doors.

the bonnet stay will bend everytime you use it on each pin so straighten it back out. looks like a banana.\/

i did both doors by myself and only took ten mins.
hope this helps some people out.:d

Nice guide. I've never managed to punch a door pin out from the top/bottom without the tool hitting the door (like it looks you have done as the paint has chipped). This is the 'proper' tool you can buy:

the main reason for removal tool failure is because people don't support the end of the door, and even raise it a small amount, because the old pins wear & they catch on the hinge.
