on the mk1 they prise out front the bottom edge etc but be gentle and the speedo cable will be holding it back so go under the bonnet and push it into the car so you can get your hand in to unclip it.

and the digi needs a bit cutting to make it fit the mk1 dash :D

if you undo the speedo cable from the g/box its alot easier

that would be sooo hard to get at it from the glove box. Just get on your back put your arm up in there detachs the 12 pin from the back of the dash same as the speedo and then prise it out by making it go bottom end up then wiggle it out till it comes! try not to damage the contact film on the back of it!

think just the lugs at the top and left and right! and just a lot of jiggery pokery. There is a thread on here somewhere of someone that actually put the digi dash in a mk1. Have a search. But standard dash ftw! or alternatively. Just buy a mk2 dash and fit the mk2 interior and no mods required!

Like Brains said, push some slack on the speedo cable through the grommet on the bulkhead, then ease the clocks out until you can get your hand behind them to disconnect the cable and the plug from the back of the clocks. The Haynes manual recommends taking the top part of the steeering cowling off, but this is just as difficult! Once you've done it a couple of times mate, you get the knack!

The cowling has to come off, then push the top of the clock and the bottom should pop out, push some slack speedo cable through and you should (just) be able to push the clip in holding the cable in..

and digidashes aren't a straight swop into a mk1 dash...they can be made to fit though, but you will have to hack away at the dash

Unless you have a heated garage (i wish!) or are desperate to change it, this is the sort of fiddly job that is best done when the weather warms up a bit. Cold plastic shatters where warm plastic bends..
