hi there

my 2000 (W) ford focus 1.6 ZETEC cut off randomly today after setting off, i accelerated gently to 30 and then it cut off as if somebody pulled to key out. and refuses to start, fuel is coming so pump is fine but just wont start as if there's no spark, any ideas? tried fuel cut off switch btw

Cant you trade it in for an astra?

Seriously though, what engine, fuel type etc?? We need more info than that. My guess is immobiliser or a relay gone down.

I still say cam or crank. Fords no matter what always prime the pump on switch of the ignition.

hmm, well crank sensor is £16, will do that monday morning, any other ideas though?

I would get a diagnostic check done if possible, you say it is getting fuel but are the injectors firing?

Dont just do it dude, get it checked properly... your shooting in the dark otherwise.

hmm not checked if injectors are firing, but my brother also reckons crank sensor. i literally accelerated gently off a roundabout and it was literally as if somebody pulled key out, it just died. no noise etc. so im thinking sensor too.

Really depends where you get it done, dealer price (Vauxhall) around here is about £60 but independent garages may be cheaper.

Your pump may be priming and sending fuel to the rail but after that nothing could be happening. I would definetly get a diagnostic check done rather than buying parts because you could spend a fortune on parts on the off chance it fixes it when it would probably be cheaper getting it scanned.

I charge £38 for diag. So for an independant use that as a guide fella.

My monies on the crank sensor as they are known to go on the zetec engines but very similar symptoms to imobaliser kicking in. A diag is best though!

Which Ford forum? Most will only talk to you if you have an rs, and the smaller ones are all cruise sites loosely disguised as owners clubs of the car a few of their mates drive...
