right was parked up earlyer and car was dirving fine but lately over last few days accosionlay have been smelling clucth when im dring along and puuling awaya nd its not my driving :confused:

right carry on.. i reversed out of spot int 1st and went fine slowed down for speed bump and went to pull over it and the gear lever poped out of 1st gear so wonderd what had happend i put back it to 1stgear let clucth out and nothing no drive at all ? .... engine running can put it into gear with no clutch :tard:


cable is on .
gear linkage is fine.
gear linage in car is fine.
any suggestions as im stuck without a car
its a 5 speed f10 by the way 1,4 sr

For the gear lever to pop out of 1st to me would indicate a box-selector issue rather than clutch. If it was clutch I would expect the linings or centre to be ripped off the friction plate. Unless you have been doing burnouts or letting your gran reverse it, a 1.4 shouldnt do that. and that wouldnt make it jump out of 1st.

take the plate of the bottom of the gearbox
(four 11mm bolts)
and see what falls out

Yea this would be my suggestion too although my mate once blew his clutch up in a xr3 escort and he had same symptoms would go in gear with engine running without dipping clutch etc but he had ragged it tbh.

Could be but it wouldnt go in gear without the clutch depressed then though would it?

more problems ???


yesterday som e how i manged to pop the smaller shaft out of box, so poped her back in was fine. on the night i went out driving about as you do and i smelt gearbox oil realy bad liek burning so i pulled over and found that there was gearboix oil every were and my small shaft was half in and half out ?
what do you think is causing this to happen ?

any suggestions cheers

shaft sounds like its too short or something is the circlip on the end of the inner cv ok? did you use the 1.4 shafts although i think there all the same:confused: .

ive just took shaft out and compared it to another shaft and there is no circlip and there no bit above the clip, so thats in the gearbox am i right !:cry:

just took bottom plate of gearbox of and the bit witch hold the circlip fis onto falls out but i just noticed that there is a hole ate teh box of box must of smashed into it !!


fail gearbox needed asap cheers

Thats a bummer that mate thought it had to be summat like that easy job changing a gearbox though mate 2 hours max.
