My dad's got one,
He was worried because it was dying, then went away for 2 weeks leaving me in charge of watering it, (of course I didn't actually do it!!) and it come back to life.
I've always fancied one. They're a PITA to look after though, so 'they' say.
They all die, no matter how much attention you give them unless you're JDM y0!
Mines getting bloody big now lol, its had a growing frenzy...
Needs a trim actually must invest in some clippers
oh oh oh and i have a baby bansi tree growing at the moment :D
Top stuff Rexy, my new ones a little over 12 inch high now. What you got Rexton, an Elm is it?
Liam, there pish easy to look after TBH, over watering is common for killing them, an clipping branches before they brown.
IMO & experience, the Chinese Elm is choice, the Chinese Pepper Tree's ive heard are a royal PITA to care for :( you aint gotta worry as much about temperature rise/drop with the elm.
Chinese? You have the knock off's lol. Although from what you two say they seem to stay the course. :)
I may get one if I won't kill it so easily then colonthumbsup
the only plants i have are cultivating in my loft
Funny you should say that Draper, as my first Bonsia Tree sat growing away next to a Skunk plant many moons ago :)
This is how he currently looks

Is the woodstain behind it because you fancied treating it to a new colour?! lol

I like these trees
Tis a pull cord Andy.
Talking to Limplamp about it on msn atm, found a site made by mega enthusiasts and it all sounds like major hassle to make one that doesn't look like a cutting in a fancy pot lol

Is rather impressive though
That's pretty cool, may purchase one
^ they take literally FOREVER lol to get like in that pic, that bushy i mean (snigger lol )
Looks very well looked after tho, besides the browned leaves that should have been picked off before pic was took.
God i sound sad as fĂșck :(
We bought a basil plant and it died in a few days, not sure if i'm ready to move up to a tree

Tbh I doubt that was an accident as the guy on this site has like 100 pages of all kinds of crap on them, and it does make it look more realistic tbh, what I can't quite picture is the scale of it, the leaves look too small for it to be any smaller than 8" tall, but i dunno if that's something that slowly happens when you do all the right pruning etc
Think they said like 25 years for a good convincing bonsai, about 8 before it deserves a pot because a bonsai pot restricts something or other that makes it look right, i was skim reading lol
25 years! Will Miracle Grow help reduce that?
25 years! Will Miracle Grow help reduce that?
I think that's the opposite to what they're trying to do lol
I will maybe just get a monkey puzzle tree instead

I've got two of the little buggers. They were lovely and healthy before I went to South Africa over Xmas and left them to die PMSL. One is fully recovered now and the other is just a trunk poking out the soil, I haven't given up on it yet though! Trimming the leaves off at the base off the leaf forces them to sprout two smaller leaves in it's place giving the tree a more scaled look to it. They like plenty of water too, I stand mine in a sink of water that covers the soil and leave for 20mins, this soaks them right through and as the water drains out it draws oxygen into the soil. :)

For watering purposes use water that's been boiled and is then back down to normal 'out of the tap' temps.
Soaking seems to work best - I think every couple of weeks at the moment, fill a washing up bowl with said water to a level where it just covers the soil of the tree, leave it in there for a bit, take it out, leave it for a bit on the side to drain off then put it back. Think it's every week or every other week lol been going well for about a year. Add nutrients to the soil every now and then too.
It doesn't help that each guide/owner will tell you to do a different thing with these so choose the advice of someone who has got one that isn't dead or dying ;)
