Hi,

I have a 1.4 carb engine, im putting the head on, on the weekend, the only problem i have is i don't have and haven't got access to a torque wrench. Is there a method you can use to tighten up the head bolts, to make sure you have the correct tension. Am i right in saying that when tightening them up, you have to tighten them from the ouside in like so.

1 7 9 6 4
3 5 10 8 2

Also you have to get them to a correct tension 25nm then do three 60degree turns in the pattern above, then it's done?.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Nath

youve got the order wrong and you cant do it properly without a torque wrench lol not a good start really

You circle from the inside out, so

10,6,2,3,7
9,5,1,4,8

And as said, a torque wrench is needed! Then 3 x 60 turns in the order above.

Yea you need a torque wrench and an angle gauge.

first off torque all down in the sequence shown to 25nm.

then do 3 turns of 60 degrees,

sequence,

7 3 2 6 10
8 4 1 5 9

Make sure also that all the mating surfaces are spotless and you put sealer between the cam carrier and the head or it will leak.
