could any one tell me how the caps come off the mirrors

you mean the caps on the iniside of the doors? for the wing mirrors?

If it's the door mirror plastic covers for painting then the should clip off. You'll need a slim flat screw driver or blade to prise off the cover.

can do it fairly easily without a screw driver, push the bottom of the mirror into itself and pull it out towards what would normally be the front of the car if they were fitted and pointing the right way, the bottom should unclip and the top should now just pull out easily, saves damaging them with a screw driver.
