Hydraulic tappets

How do I squash the hydraulic tappets on my 2.0 8v engi ne as I believe they are pump up and holding the valves open as I have had the cam carrier off.

they wont hold them open what mkes you think they are holding the valves open?

The engine seems to be back firing up both the inlet and exhaust.

As said on Mig, they pump up with oil pressure.

is it actually starting then or not? if not then it could be incorrectly timed. have you got the HT leads on in the right order?

Have you cleaned them out? I'm not too sure how they could hold both valves open though...

Have you pressure tested the engine?
