View Full Version : My BTCC inspired Nissan Primera build

Right, I may as well add a WIP for my car on here. A couple of you have asked if had one in the past and there is a few non Nova builds on here ATM so I will join in Lol. Plus it gives me a better place to ask any questions I have.

The plan is to make a fast road/occasional track day car with a slight resemblance to the kick ar$e Super Tourers of the 90's.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2570/3694570406_0408a30e2d.jpg
Bear with me whilst I bring you up to speed...

I have owned the car since 2001 when it was purchased from the original keeper as a totally standard 1600cc Si model. The car has had various minor modifications over the years, better spec parts, engine transplants etc.
I sourced a CF ex-works splitter and some Raceline RL7's with the intention of making an ST replica, but after running into roll cage manufacturing issues I changed my mind.
I then aquired a late model [P11-144)] rear end (boot, bumper, lights) smoothed over those panels and did the same to a P11-GT front bumper and numerous other modifications.
Not to mention an amazing KISH retrim - I need to sell this now!
I then made the mistake of sending the car to be painted at Mel Horn (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=mel+horn+bodyshop&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=mel+horn+bodyshop&hnear=England&cid=10753142117658655690) bodyshop, the car came out the wrong colour [despite me supplying a correct paint code only to be told it was incorrect] and overall it was a poor job. It came back painted in Aston Martin Tungsten silver not Titanium silver FFS.

Avoid this bodger at all costs!

For numerous reasons (and other projects) I lost interest in the car so it sat in the garage for who knows how long.

Not long ago I decided to sell all of my flushed panels, s/s exhaust, SQ audio etc etc as I no longer have any interest in that stuff and think it can look a bit naff plus I don't want to be associated with the euro boys lol.

That's about it so far for this car. I have condensed this essay as no doubt you, like I don't want to hear it lol. L14 MNP has been off the road for over 5 years now. Terrible for a car built in 1998!

I only stick with this car as it was my first I guess.
At least it gives me a very clean base to do what I intended to do from the start, build a fun and capable Nissan Primera.

Here's a quick few pics of the boring crap.

Right, on to the more present stuff.

I attempted to put the bonnet back to standard as it was a brand new OEM part. I removed the plates welded in to flush it but there was too much damage done for it to ever look right. So in the bin it went.
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s247/eurojdmp11/Primera/09/Picture030.jpg
I have bought another ex-works carbon fibre downforce splitter, this is better than the one I originally had as it’s the later design.
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s247/eurojdmp11/Primera/09/DSC09849.jpg?t=1265662767
The bumper is crap and ruined though so that’s for the bin.
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s247/eurojdmp11/Primera/09/Picture028-2.jpg?t=1265662695
An ex-works downforce spoiler, unfortunately from a 96-00 Mondeo, but better than nothing for now.

A mate of mine also collected a couple of brand new OEM wings for me and is going to cut them higher and flare them out.

Aero catches for boot and bonnet

Hollowed out the doors, side impact bars etc add up to a noticeable weight, and the boot

Apologies for the jumbled up order. I'm copying this from word and another forum. I think that's about it for the older stuff, or all I CBA with.

I will write up a fresh post now with what's been happening lately.

Right. I decided I wanted to slam the car so if it ever sees a track or a nice road then it is cabable of running low and hopefully generating some true downforce to aid the handling.

I cut out the rear inner arch (only done one side for now due to space etc)
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/SP_A0713-1.jpg
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/SP_A0791-1.jpg?t=1265665209

The door shut area also needs to be cut out as can be seen in my expertly marked pics. lol I didn't do this at first
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/SP_A0717-1-1.jpg?t=1265665330
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/SP_A0716-1-1.jpg?t=1265665357

I then lowered the car down to see where it caught. I already had a good idea from studying some RML works car build pics.

My panhard rod on the rear beam maxed out and hit the floor as did the trailing arms, with the tyre still clear of the door area as marked above.
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/beamold-1.jpg?t=1265666959
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/armold-1.jpg?t=1265667443
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/SP_A0802-1.jpg?t=1265666122
The height in those pics from sill to ground was 3.5". Standard is 7"

The decision was made to redesign the beam. Making it width and camber adjustable, with a slimmer adjustable panhard and trailing arms.
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/untitled.jpg?t=1265665727
The standard set up

I had already cut and remove a section of the half tube and bent the beam and rewelded it for camber.
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/Photo-0409.jpg?t=1265667361
This bodge had to go lol.

I am making a mk1 Fiesta style setup out of one single tube cut into two that can bolt together with spacer plates, like this.
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/Random/mk1fiestaadjustablebeam.jpg?t=1265665810

The original design of my beam, incorporates a full and half tube design, making it a tw4t to make adjustable, and the trailing arms were too big.

The original small tube has been retained for strength and will be welded to the centre plates when I cut it in half.

Cut off the strut tops and fitted the strut to the beam then bolted strut top back on and tacked in place to see how high new strut towers would be (already measure obviously lol)
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/PICT1257-1.jpg?t=1265667631
Old tower height and new.

Door shut area cut out, so no more rubbing! There has been so many skins removed to get the arches to this stage lol!
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/PICT1250.jpg?t=1265666538

Next step is to remake the strut towers and then see where the trailing arms can go.

Cheers Mr Cabby :) and Bubba, the Primeras used to clean up in 98/99 and I used to use them on the Toca games way back when lol.

The Cavs did look very cool, and the early 90's stuff is so much less developed than the last of the multi million pound R&D machines. So easier to 'replicate' They're just something else.
Do a Cav replica, I seen the front splitter and a set of doors for sale a bit ago. :thumb:

If you do, don't drop it on springs and a set of 17's with works stickers and that's it. IMO that's the first thing people think of when you say Touring car rep. lol Not good!

Will have to leave them tucked Iain, otherwise if I cut the arch out with the car on the deck and need to raise it it will leave me with arch gaps lol. It may be possible to trim them a little, but then I don't really see the point.

Cheers peg and callums :)

Thanks everyone. :)

Southie, no date TBH. I'm done with blowing huge wads on cars so it will get done when it is done tbh. Apart from buying a new engine, seats, cage etc the vast majority of it will be done by me. Including painting it.

This particular car has seen too much of my money, I paid £1900 for the interior to be retrimmed and over £700 on a set of headlights :/ I know I'm a fool! Hence the caution now! lol

novashed, If that Cav was a touch higher and the front splitter removed then it would be OK for a bit of B road fun IMO. That's my aim, all the bumpers will be quick release and same goes for the splitter so it should still be useable lol.

Need to get some steel, probs tomorrow. Then I can extend the strut towers and start on the tubs.

What engine you using? 20DET?

Awsome project btw, ive always dreamed of doing something like this, one day!

L14MNP
10-02-10, 03:41 PM
Cheers dude. :) What car would you choose then?

More than likely will run a DET yeah. Part of me wants an SR20VE, but for the money they cost to import and then fettle with N1 cams etc you're only knocking on the door of 200 bhp. Ideally I want 250+

So I reckon the plan is to buy and break a sh!tter GTi-R and if the motor's healthy enough I will just run it stock, then afterwards I would rebuild it and up the power.

Even the 150bhp 'red top' DE would still shift it reasonably well (aint gonna run one though) as it will be much lighter than standard. Though I have no idea what the final weight will be. It better be no more than 1000kg though lol.

I just sold a brand new high port SR20DE which I have GTi-R throttle bodies for, I sometimes wonder if I should have kept it. No sense farting about when easy power is a bolt in option though, plus I don't have the worry of plowing ££'s into a high revving N/A engine that may go pop (DE/VE) lol

BTW, if anyone has any pics of the Nissan works cars, particuarly the rear beam setup and the front running gear mods I would be greatful if you could stick them in here. :thumb:

:thumb:
I dunno what id choose, probably something very similar to what your doing, wouldnt go vauxhall again, sort of lost interest with it all!

SR20DETS are a pretty solid engine, a lot better than the VG30DETT i had! And there even better than the RB's, for reliability! I reckon you could see 300bhp for somewhere in the region of 2-3k with decent managment. I was a user on the Gti-r forum, when i used to own a neesaan! SR20DETs go for pennies from a Gti-R, however, if you were to buy one from an s13/s14, people seem to want loads! I dont think theres any other options really?

Never had any experience with 300ZX's mate. I've heard they can be trouble though lol

The reason the GTi-R variant of the DET's go cheaper is cos they aren't as advanced and the type from the S-body cars. No VVC and a few other differences. They also won't just drop into a FWD or 4WD shell. My mate (the lad Danny SP mentioned) looked into fitting a VVC head from an S14a onto his GTi-R DET and said it really wasn't worth the hassle.

I tasked my father with the job of cutting/rolling some sheet to extend my strut towers. He came up trumps on Friday, so I chopped it about and bent it here and there so it fit the car perfectly.

I also attempted to acquire some sheet steel for the tubs but the (cheapest/best) suppliers was busy and then closed. :(

I've welded it both sides, where it joins the strut top and the chassis leg.
I need a new auto-darkening visor, or just to dig out the lenses I have for this one, as I can't see very well. :( lol It has penetrated perfectley though, just not very neat. Nowt a quick pass with a flap wheel can't solve I guess.

That's the floorpans just off the deck - around two threads showing on the coilovers lol.

It would have been nice to remake the whole strut tower but I just want to crack on. I may go back to it, but I think once cleaned up that it should look presentable enough.

I'm gonna chop out the N/S/R arch and strut tower tomorrow and then raise the towers to the same heigh, hang the beam and then look at where I can attach the trailing arms and panhard.
I was just going to leave the N/S on the jack and use a spirit level, but the beam 'roll's on the jack as it has no trailing arms to keep it square.

I think this way will be the most accurate. :thumb:

Ah but you see I'm not such a fan. I'd prefer it if the whole wheel was on show with the sills on the deck. This isn't practical though as when the car is raised to a 'street' level I would have arch gaps! I'm gonna look into it though.:thumb:

Mike, they're 18" Raceline RL7's mate. I thought you would recognise a set of those lol. TBF though, they do look different in larger sizes.

Sunny wheels wouldn't fit as they're 4x100 and I'm 4x144.3. I had to have these when they came up years ago. I've never seen them in this PCD or size. Best bit is I swapped then complete with Eagle F1 GSD3's for my ACE 17's from the earlier pics. lol

Sunday/tonights efforts were to cut out what remains of the boot floor, the passenger side inner arch and remove the strut top and clean it up ready to be heightened. There is that much crap stuck to the towers from the various inner skins, some being 3mm thick that it takes ages just to prepare it for refitting. :(

As can be seen this side is a totally different shape due to the fuel filler. I assumed I could get away with using the standard fuel flap and make another filler neck but the wheel is going to be completely in the way, so I guess it's gonna have to be a fill it through the window job. I'm not too concerned about that at the minute though.

Does anyone know the MOT regulations/legal requirements for towing eyes?

The rear, below will be in the factory position (what a tw4t the old one was to fully remove!) but it will protrude a lot more. As it has rounded edges I thought it may not even come into question?

may be a different story? I can see that causing concern? lol

http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/PICT1278-1.jpg?t=1266272233
Plenty more where that come from...

Once I get the rest of this inner arch out of the way and the tower raised over the next few days I should be near the stage of knocking up the rear tubs. Which I'm looking forward to. You can only chop out so much, then you start to think adding some new metal would be a wise move. lol

Ta Joe. I'm gonna run my standard plastic 60 litre tank mate. It's more weight in the right place (inside the wheel base and as low as possible).Turns out the touring cars ran the tank in the original place too. Hows the mk2, any new toys?

The exhaust tunnel is massive mate. It will tuck up no bother I reckon. I've always wondered why it's so large. Maybe some of the pressings are shared between this and the JDM 4WD versions? After wrestling with a wheel thet did not want to sit on a hub for about 20 mins I finally got it on. This will be a lot easier when the beam is cut in the middle and is narrlowed slightly and adjustable for camber/toe.

On that note, I have took some measurements tonight and will get my dad to cut me out the plates needed to bolt the beam together. So hopefully that can happen soon. :)

Rose joints and Dzus fasteners turned up today so as soon as I can I will be looking at how to mount the trailing arms on the beam.

Would love to see it in the flesh, youll have to post on here when you take it out, maybe not soon! But id like a look either way

Could i ask what sort of equipment your using mate? Like the welder etc, ive been looking into getting a welder, but theres sooo many to choose from. I know it will be a a gas mig, but turbo? I prefer superchargers myself! lol

No tubs yet lol. It was always the plan to get the strut towers in and then sort the trailing arms and panhard design so I can see exactly where the wheelbase is, and how much room I have to play with - then tubs. lol I'm making this to take 19" Mag wheels for if I change to a set of Dymag centre locks in the future.

I get you now db, It won't be running that low all of the time, but will still be very close to the ground. Bumpers and splitter will be quick release so that should help a lot! I'll bring it to PVS ('11) mate. lol

My MiG is a Clarke 175a from Machine Mart and it's just right IMO. Welds 3/4mm with ease. I have had a 130a before and it was a bit lacking my eyes.
lol @ chargers - don't we all!

Unsure on the cage for now, there's nothing off the shelf, and I am wanting to have one based on the ST designs so I may well end up having a go at making it. I plan to weld a few bits in anyway, like the dash bar etc and see how I get on.

Cheers for the mag info! I will have to check that out. :)

Ahhh thats a good idea with the quick release front end. Still have to be a low loader i reckon!

Ill have to have a look at that sometime, only problem is i got nowhere to put a socket set, let alone a welder! Hopefully buying a house next year, and im really really really hoping it will have some small area to work in, but i wont hold my breath, not being first time buying.

I looked into the kit for bending tubes, as if you were to build a cage, and you can get a hydrualic kit that bends upto 180 degrees, of upto stresses of 12tonne, for 170ish quid, which i though was good. But im not sure what else youd need to do a real good job

Well, progress is slow lol. I've not bothered with the car all of last week due to refurbishing four of my Volvos Superlites and the car itself needs a bit of TLC. Pretty pleased with how the lips have come up, they were corroded and curbed to fcuk (previous owner). Just in need of a lick of paint now.
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/Dusty%20Drifter/PICT1320.jpg?t=1267565937

As for the P11, I asked my dad to cut me out the two plates at work I need to make the rear beam adjustable. He's been rushed off his feet so couldn't get them done for ages. Then when he did, he had to use some scrap plate that wasn't fully circular. Add that to the fact I gave him the ID of my beams tube instead of the OD (for the centre hole of the plates) and it has meant some time spent over my mates lathe lol. Awesome machines. :)

I'm finally sorted with them now, so I've cut the beam in half and removed 15mm from each outer tube. I need to cut the inner tube down so it sits nicely in the plates, it's a snug fit but obviously I don't want it to protrude.

Then I can weld it up. That's tomorrows job. I can then finally see where my wheels want to sit without the tyres resting on the outer arch.

04-03-10, 10:54 AM
Damn. I have got my sums wrong here. I cut 30mm out of the beam and then welded on the two plates which are 5mm each. So I should have been left with 10mm either side for brake discs and general arch clearance and a bit remaining for adding a camber spacer (if desired) to the centre.

My mate said a while ago that brake disc centres were 'around' 7mm thick so I took his word on it. I guess some are, but I have three sets here, two front one rear and they're all much thicker. Obviously this only came to my attention after modifying the beam. lol

It goes like this, Uprated 330mm R34 GTR fronts are just under 17mm thick, Uprated R33 GTR fronts were around 18.5mm and standard P11 non vented rears are over 19mm thick.

I know comparing fronts to rears isn't ideal, but it surprised me that the larger the disc, the thinner the centre. Or is this maybe down to them not being the standard fit items?

I think my next stop is finding some appropriate discs with thinner centres.
The spec on these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NISSAN-SKYLINE-2-5-08-93-11-98-Brake-Discs-Rear_W0QQitemZ260559203204QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Ca rsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3caa89eb84) has me confused. 9mm is the width of the entire disc I guess but what's with the 4 holes, they should be 5x114.3.

A trip to Halfords with a micrometer may come in well handy. Also does anyone know if the motorfactors books would have the thickness of the hub area listed in the specs? Or is there a decent site to check? (I'm looking now)

Even if I get some -10mm discs I think I'm still going to have to remove a little more from the beam. No big deal though I guess.

I also have the option of having the back face of the wheels machined to raise the offset. Here's a pic of them, looks possible to me. What do we think? (I'd use this as a last resort)

Sorted for info. Now to find something suitable.

Final question on brake discs. Is there any notable reasons why I shouldn't run front discs on the rear? Or are the usual reasons just down to caliper clearance/fitment etc?

More rear beam shennanigans this weekend. A mate and I discussed the trailing arm situation. I'll not pretend to have made any of this. I just watched and generally passed tools lol. The guy really knows his stuff. :thumb: Thanks again Ron! :thumb:

I wanted adjustment on the trailing arms so I could move the rear wheelbase forward or back depending on where the wheels are happiest and also handy for if I upgrade to 19" Dymags at some stage. TBH I will try and run the wheels further forward I think to shorten the wheelbase, but then you have the trade off of between a slighty better handling car or one that looks stupid/broken - a compromise shall be reached. lol
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l160/2HEKTK/BTCC013.jpg
This amazing machine looks to have some sweet adjustment. I hope for similar.

The design was decided. Have the rose joints fixed at the pivot end where the trailing arms bolt to the shell and the adjustment will come from the beam end.

http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/PICT1337.jpg?t=1268002981
The finished brackets.
As can be seen, the slotted holes will allow the trailing arms to slide forward/back and then be locked in place with M10 bolts.

I now need to acquire some steel bar for Ron to work his magic in his lathe and the RJ end will be sorted.

I have also decided to shorten the beam again, I am going to take a further 30mm out of the centre. This will leave more than enough room for brake discs, wider wheels, camber shims and/or a spacer.

This finally tipped up the other day. After a fart on with the courier on the sellers end.

The trailing arms have been todays focus. Started with a length of tube, some 30mm bar and a couple of rose joints.

The idea being to make an insert in the lathe that would be drilled and tapped. An M16 bolt added (all welded together) then the RJ will screw onto the protruding bolt threads.

allysr, No plans to mate. Just want something fun I can blat about in and what I can drive to the odd track day. The main aim is making the car a decent base to build on so I can develop further in the future. If I can sort an MSA cage out (properly) then I guess I could look into hillclimbing maybe.
I dunno. I will be happy just to have it on the road lol. Thanks mate. :thumb:

lol Mike. The cutting job on the lathe can't go that deep mate! It managed it after the bar was drilled out to 14mm though. Believe me, the easy option is always the first consideration! lol

Finally got the beam back in one piece (and more importantly lined up straight) it's been a right fcuk on to allign the inner tube with the outer and have the disc that bolts the two together rotated the correct way for the PCD to bolt up.

It's down to the fact that the inner tube is original and is welded to the hubs at an angle and straightens up in the middle. Due it now being something like 45mm shorter than standard (I forget ATM) and me welding a new full sized outer tube it required bending to sit central. No amount of fcuking on with a vice/spacers/big bars etc was getting it precise enough. Finally it is, thanks to this:
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/DSC00023-1.jpg
This washer sits inside the outer tube and keeps the inner central. Job done. :)

I now have muchos room for discs, camber or width spacers and wider wheels if I desire.

I had a play with the trailing arms with my mate. Bit of a balls up on my part when making the brackets - they're angled the wrong way!:wtf: lol

So this was called into action for the first time.
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/DSC00025-1.jpg

http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/DSC00033-1.jpg
Beam tucked right up and nothing catching.

Originally the idea was to have the trailing arms straight, however now these have been bent (good job Micks a plumber lol Cheers mate!) i think I prefer this way. They are tucked up right out of the way and still clear the chassis leg by a couple of mm with the car on it's lowest setting - which it will probably never see.

Now the arms are sort of done I just require drilling the brackets on the car out to 16mm or having my mate turn me a collar to allow the original 12mm bolts to be used in the rose joints. Seeing as they are M16 though i think i will drill the car out.

There's a bit more to be cut out of the bodywork on the N/S (door step, some inner arch) and more was cut from the O/S yesterday (chassis leg overhang, bit of floor lol) then I can set the wheelbase and finally will be able to start on the tubs.

As always I want to get cracking on this, but my Volvo is going to be seeing some attention over the next few weeks as I am wanting it another inch lower and to tidy it up a bit after the winter kicked it's 4rse so it may intrude on the project that should be known as 'As and when' lol :thumb:

Right, now that I'm not dying I can get back onto this lol

When we re-done the N/S/R strut tower the beam then sit at the angle that was originally intended, so I had to make more trailing arms.

http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/DSC00093-1.jpg
Straight as an arrow as intended first time around - wonky strut tower to blame!

I decided to cut away the remainder of the inner arch where it meets the outer arch lip (removed this too). I was going to just trim it back and seal it but It's a bodge, plus this way i can pull the arches out very easily should I want/need to. The new design will be like a Peugeot, with the tub being welded directly to the outer skin and no lip/water trap anywhere. Plus it's a lot neater. :)
http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/DSC00088-1.jpg
A wise move I'm sure you'll agree. This is a very clean shell, having covered only 58K miles and been garaged SORN for the last 5 years, but it still has it's surprises. There was loads of dirt hiding between the skins and the sealer was very rusty in places and was starting to disease the outer skin - luckily it was very very minor.

It was quite the fcuk on seperating the inner and outer spotwelds (read tearing/cutting) without distorting the quarter panel. I'm pleased with it though, especially as I know it will never rust now. :)

It used to bother me that it was 'dated' before. Plus my likes/dislikes changed. Now though it can only be dated in a good way, I hope.

That's right, the (OMG) 90's. LOLZ

That's the real reason I don't have an engine in the bay yet, fossil fuels will be used up by the time I roll this out of the garage.

You also discovered the true reason for my tubbing needs, it's to fit an electric motor to each wheel. :p

lol I like the idea of being able to do more than 50 miles without a full rebuild.
Not to mention the slight stumbling block of the nigh on £10K required for an STW motor and an XTRAC lol.

Yeah, GTi-R all the way, unless I can find an SR16/20VE. The DET appeals more because it's easlly uprated, cheaper to buy in standard form (no farting on with ECU's etc) and ten a penny though. :thumb:

LOL Draper. I wanna be fast not last! :p

Gave the O/S/R arch the same treatment last night.

This one had a touch more dirt etc hiding behind the lips and the seam sealer had done a better job of starting to infect the outer quarter. Once again I am thankful of the shells e-coating. :thumb:

This side would have held it's share of surprised in years to come I'm sure. Guess that's what I get for going an entire winter without washing the car one time. :wtf: So much for the curb side taking the majority of the hammer too. lol

Then I caught my thumb end/nail with the grinders flap wheel and cut a nice little V into myself which pretty much made my thumb useless as some of the sensitive skin from below the nail is burned and protruding so it catches on everything and is annoying - yes I was wearing gloves, but never have the guard on the grinder. Maybe I will put it back on. lol

Plus I had a better offer. My mate has just had some chunky off road tyres fitted to his Range Rover so we went in search of snow. lol

Cheers Danny. dj spudly, a reverse head genuine STC lump isn't possible lol.
Not to mention the constant rebuilds required, the fact it would be a tw@t to get through an emissions test and to reigsiter with the DVLA etc etc. You wanna see the graft that needs to go into making a subframe etc for it.

Got some nice large card sheets today from my mates dad who's a printer, so I'm on course for the tubs. Cheers Ad. :thumb:

http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s247/eurojdmp11/Primera/ABCD0013.jpg

Turbo power FTW. Much easier than chasing decent N/A figures. Plus if I was going N/A I would want a JDM only SR16VE or SR20VE no a variant of the SR20DE.

I see what you're saying but it's poor bang for buck.

It's dead! Had no room to continue and it's a money pit. Cheap and cheerful is the name of the game for me atm. I'm wanting to save for something decent out of the box.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/DSC00306.jpg

All useable items are for sale and I'm weighing it in when I CBA to hire a trailer. Roof skin has been acquired to blank off the wheel well on the Volvo. lol

See for sale section for wheels! lol

LOL @ footy team - we're like Man United mate. NEVER quit. Even if your boys think the game is won. :p lol

But we won 6-2 this season which makes me happy and got £20 off dad :d

We will finish higher. massive progress being made at the club tbf. SAFC have bigger fish to fry than just the local derbies now. :d (lol) I didn't think we would score btw. I'd be happy never having to see another NE derby again if I'm honest - we like our seats to remain anchored to the the ground! lol

If I had a unit I could have kept hold of the Nissan shell, but seriously, why bother when I'd be spending Skyline/Evo etc money!

Like most things in life, I learn this too late. lol

Because it's never really about what you could get better but what you can build for yourself that you'd be happy with, by the time the novas done I'm sure it would have cost me 3-4k over a few years and I may well be able to get something 'better' for that money, but something built to my spec that I'm perfectly happy with? Doubt it! :)

really annoys me when you see people starting these really good projects get half way in then decide to just bin it, why bother starting it in the first place, i know some of them have good reasons but when the reason is i got bored or something like that then why waste a good car

^^ in reality we would all like every project to succeed; but there are loads of reasons sometimes why they dont get finished..
I think Liamp's slightly jokey/light hearted approach to the post about canning the project is just making people think he didnt care perhaps..
If your hearts not in it anymore; shouldnt waste more money..

I understand what your saying but this wasnt your average, run of the mill car build. With some builds you cross a line of no return and have every intention of seeing it through but when they are such long builds something else in life can come along and the car gets a back seat.

Shame to see this stop Limp but I know your feelings.

i had years of building my track cars from scratch then dropped lucky with this ex show car that i am now grafting all the road stuff over from a 98 donor car http://s1091.photobucket.com/albums/i391/berniesierra/ you canfind ex race shells for 1200 quid butsod all fits them you need all the btcc stuff to go with it and that costs **** loads, this car still has all the road car engine mounts, it had btcc front hubs that i have removed.

Bernie

Some further weight saving. Rear seat supports and fixed parcel shelf removed. Seat rails, sound deadening and all other brackets binned too.

i went through all the touring car rep bit, i looked at buying an ex car bit prices can be a joke people trying to sell them for what they have been and not what they are now i paid 2k for this ex show car i binned all the btcc running gear and it has all the standard engine mounts in place but its had all the arches cut out etc has the big wings, full cage carbon dash so i should have a good circuit car without all the bull
