Wasnt going to be doing another Nova for a while but found this sitting in someones garage, tax ran out at the start of 2007! Its a 1.2 i Merit Plus in Burgundy.
They just wanted it gone so didnt pay much for it and so snapped it up.
Needs a bit tlc but then it doesnt look like its ever been touched up or that since new!
Needing both arches tidied up so just going to replace them, both doors and wings need replacing which i aquired from Moffats old burgandy gsi rep.
Also managed to aquire some gsi bumpers, side skirts and a spoiler. 2 spare bonnets, genuine gm inner arch panels (not required so will be for sale) and a few other bits n bobs so far! Also requires front panel tidying so just going to replace the whole thing aswell!
Other than that the shell itself seems to be in pretty good condition so pretty happy to have another Nova sitting in the garage!

Wasnt happy driving the old Gte Rep on the road, getting too old and like my comforts so plans are that this is going to be a stripped out road legal track car! Road legal so i can drive it to and from the track!
Weld up the chassis, full colour change, roll cage, 2 bucket seats, perpspex windows, front and rear coilovers, front and rear strut braces, front and rear whiteline anti-roll bars. 5 stud Cavy V6 hubs and brakes and take it from there.
Engine wise not sure yet but all being well is going to be something completely different once we've done all our measurements and calculations just to make sure its going to work ;)
Is a long term project so see how things go.......

Starting to think about colours for painting this.
No surprises on the 1st one, love it :thumb:
1 - Silk Violet.
2 - Lightening Silver. (which is a grey colour from astra coupes etc.)
3 - Apache bronze. (Bright metallic copper or whatever you call it)
Had a LET corsa that colour & think its Scott Parker has his nova that colour?

Having now gathered all the panels and stuff over the last few months that i need, most of which i should have kept from my old track car and the spares dept.
Managed to get doors, wings, mk1 tailgate, arch's, complete front panel, rear panel, 5 stud setup, gsi bumpers, gsi skirts, gsi spoiler, gsi dash, half cage, perspex windows etc. etc.

Whilst doing this i was racking my brain trying to think of a engine converson to do that was totally different rather than the normal XE's, LETs, C16SE turbo's & all that jazz. A suggestion was planted in my head by the guy i work with. He is right into his VW's and has a show winning MK3 Golf VR6 Turbo. He recently pruchased a MK1 Caddy that he plans to put a VR6 in and so this is where it started. Having looked into both the Nova and the Caddy there are quite a few similarities with the arrangement in the engine bays with similar mounting points, brake servo and bottle positions etc.
So decided to do a bit more homework and found that a VR6 engine and box weighs almost the same as an XE but is actually slightly narrower and shorter due to its block/piston setup. A good standard motor with little mods could see 200bhp with good torque but these are relatively easy and cheap to turbo properly which should see 350bhp +.
The conversion itself looks to be much the same as doing an XE for the 1st time, making up mounts, finding shafts that work together but knowing that allowances will have to be made for things like the wiring and the modding the exhaust system or the car due to it running the manifold at the back.
So with both our heads filled with Nova and VR6 nonsense weve decided to give it a bash.

I want to do something completely different that has the practicality and the durability i need and we reckon this will work well!

Hopefully get some space cleared at the unit shortly so i can get the nova out the garage and up there to get started..........

So heres the doner car

Someone stuck a Vauxhall red top in a Seicento over on the Fiat forum..

Bit controversial, it divided the forum for a while, but, was hard to keep away from that thread.

I suspect this one will be just as interesting to see how it progresses..

Looking good Kev, first time I have seen the Novalol
Stripping the mk3s at present so made up a small a frame just to make sure when we weld the mounts onto the Nova chassis they are in the right place

This will also mean any vag engine could in theory be dropped in ie. 20vt or r32:cool:

Ideal chief! Looking forward to getting started now :d
----------------------------------------------------------

Chose this engine to combine both mine and my bosses knowledge of most things Vauxhall and VW, not to mention it has a bit more poke and is fairly tuneable without spending fortunes.
Plus we reckon with a bit more homework we'll find VW shafts that will fit VX outers so its gonna be a learning process.
But most importantly just to do something completely different

Will keep you's posted as soon as we get things started :thumb:

Stripped the engine and subframes of the Golf today, got 2 golfs sitting so once they are both stripped and scrapped we'll be able to get the VR6 conversion done in my boss's caddy 1st. Then finally get the Nova up to the unit in June to get things started!

http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m112/TurboKev_2006/Nova%20Project%202010/S6001360.jpg

Cracking idea this from VW though, the CV's unbolt from the flanges that are fitted to the Gearbox. Saves pulling shafts out and Gearbox oil spewing everywhere. Hoping to find a set a VX shafts from our collection that will fit into these Joints.
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m112/TurboKev_2006/Nova%20Project%202010/S6001358.jpg
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m112/TurboKev_2006/Nova%20Project%202010/S6001359.jpg

Considering its a 2.8 6 cylinder the engine, it is not actually that big. Weighs approx the same as an XE and due to the piston/block configuration is actually shorter and narrower.
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m112/TurboKev_2006/Nova%20Project%202010/S6001363.jpg

http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m112/TurboKev_2006/Nova%20Project%202010/S6001364.jpg

Having done some more thinking and measuring we plan to split the top halfs from the subframes with the mounting points intact and weld them into place in the nova, this will make sure that the engine will sit exactly how it should do. Also means that theoretically any VAG engine that will squeeze into the bay can be put in. Im also leaving the Original mounts in place to allow me to revert back to a VX engine in the future if need be.

A wee update as have had a change of Shell!
Wanted an L regy for about 12 years now since i started with Nova's really and so when this popped up i had to have it. Nothing special to some folks on here but they are to me just because its an L.
Its an 1.5 Turbo Diesel, shell itself is pretty good condition. Came with Gsi Bumpers and Spoiler, Cesaros, lowered, full leather retrimmed seats(something else ive never had) and a shiney tailpipe.
Basically the bodywork looks like it just needs a good rub down, treated & re-painted!
The original plan engine wise is still going ahead but im going to have an interior now as im not getting rid of that, it just needs tidying up aswell with the gsi dash that i have and then i'l need to get hold of some black gsi quarter and boot panel trims and a gsi centre console to finish it off!
Having done a wee bit more homework rather than modifying the car we are going to make mounts up to mount the engine in the original positions on the car so that we can revert back to a VX engine in the future if the need arises.

Sold the old shell and delivered it to its new owner this morning.

The mountings for the TD engine are different to the 1.2 so will just be mocking up in this bay. Actually may make things a bit easier with this shell so its all good. :thumb:

Oooft, life as a dad is quite tiring like but going well and doing my best to do my bit :)
Yeh finding the time is hard but then were only 3 weeks in so things can only get better lol
With work and baby Holly duties the nova has sat on the trailor up the drive since i picked it up last sunday, only just managed to get it off this morning and get the old one on and away. Atleast ive got it though and with it not needing quite as much work as the other shell (I.E. colour change etc.) progress should be slightly quicker, just waiting on various projects and jobs getting finished up at the unit before i can get it in and stripped :thumb:
