As usual, when it comes to this sort of thing I value the opinion of a lot of members on PNG With that in mind, maybe you can(be ar$ed to) assist me?

Following on from my arch tubbing queries, I now need to raise the rear strut towers on the Primera.
I'm wondering the best way to go about it, as obviously I want to cut them straight, but they're an odd shape. I'm considering removign it completely from the leg.

A couple of pics to explain:

I was intially thinking of cutting along the top seam you can see

Looking from this side though, it looks easier to seperate from the leg (just above underseal)

Zoomed out for more of an idea.

I have redesigned the rear beam, trailing arms etc. and have done all of my measuring. I want to raise the towers 7" and obviously the beam etc. will move upwards too.

This setting is 'track' height. The car as low as it can go. If I'm altering everything, I thought I may as well have the option there.

So, if that is clear, what do we think is the best way to raise the towers?
I was thinking the angle they are at as standard is critical but I guess not if I make adjustable top plates? Plus the beam is width/camber/toe adjustable as are the trailing arms and panhard rod and obviously the coilovers.

So I'm thinking if one is at a slightly different angle or height it can be levelled out with adjustment elsewhere. Further pics here (http://s895.photobucket.com/albums/ac157/itsallac0nspiracy/P11/) if interested/required

My head's a bit mashed now lol

Looking at the shape of them, it looks like it might be easier to extend some box section up either side from the chassis leg, cut them to the desired length then make yourself some adjustable top plates. Once thats all done you could form some sheet around them.

Then again, it probably wasn't my opinion that you wanted :d.

I see what you're getting at Dan. lol @ comment! All are welcome. Sometimes I find it better to ask around. Others can think of things I have overlooked or missed.
It's annoying that they have no flat side to them, if they were a little taller it would probably be a lot easier to do this accurately lol.

Adjustable top plates fo sho. :)

Imo remove the whole lot and build from scratch - they are an awkward stumpy shape and it will look a lot neater as one complete construction.

I'm with count. Do your shockers run straight up or at an angle?

I started off with this (which i made from scratch) for mine

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1060.jpg

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1005.jpg

Welded it together

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1016.jpg

Strengthened it up

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1073.jpg

Cut it to the rough shape i wanted

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1088.jpg

And welded her home

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1103.jpg

Then after a clean up and paint

Bobs ya uncle! - (sorry for all the pics)

I know it wont be exactly the same in your situation but you get the idea - on the nova i move the shock mounting point up and in.

yeh i would "tub" the rear aches, it gives you so many more advantages. mainly a flat surface to work from. and when doing the bit above as count explained, i would try and incorporate the slant in the original turrets, as it will keep your suspension at the right angle.

Cheers for the pics/info Count. As said, yours looks amazing. :)

I'm going with remaking them from scratch now.

Simps, yeah they're angled mate. I'm thinking of building straight up and then making a new top part and welding it in at the correct angle.

BMX123. I'm already tubbing mate, if you didn't read it, surely you can see by how much has been cut away. lol

Cheers lads, much appreciated!
