Has anybody dropped 1 of these engines in a nova before? If not....Realistically could it be mounted in a nova?
Why wouldnt he want to?
I could think of one reason why, i dont know if many people have heard of the word on this forum though.
originality [əˌrɪdʒɪˈnælɪtɪ]n pl -ties1. the quality or condition of being original
2. the ability to create or innovate
3. something original
With the cdti its a common rail and the managment and fueling would be a serious headache before you even start the easy stuff like boilting it in.
^ As above. You would need the entire loom, the clocks etc.
Why be original if it's going to be sh!t?
Yeh but how sh*t will it be?
I once had a little go with a 2.2 sri vectra in my XE nova (162.8 with printout) and there was very little between the 2 of us.
It will be sh!t in the fact that it is a total ballache to do when something more worthwhile could be fitted. Why not shoehorn a Volvo/Ford 2.5 5cyl T5 motor in instead?
Just as much hassle and much much MUCH more point to it.
IMO there's nowt wrong with a mildly tuned Isuzu TD. No common rail crap and it will run on cherry and chip fat all day. lol
but a 2.2 would be much easier to fit into a nova as its just a straight forward petrol engine, if you were going for the hassle of fitting a new gen diesel rape an insignia for a 3.0 v6 derv.
Point well made
Still, the idea was there. A mate of mine has a mondeo tdci with 458 lb/ft, ive yet to see an xe or let make that.
Also, whats a Lolvo 360?! - i hope its a 3 door!

The 2.2 sri is a derv, thats if i got the right model! Its definatly a derv though, the one my mates got

who said i wanted to fit the engine?iam asking has it been done and or is it possible to do,i dont give a **** if you lot think its a good idea or not
tbh i think it is a great idea
1. good economy
2. as far as i know they ave good tuning potential
3. its never been done befour (that is what all you lot are missing at the min i am bored of reading project threads that say plans: coilovers, speed lines and c20xe/c20let, roll cage, striped god sake do somthing diffrent)
mate if you want to do it go for it it might be a ball ache but thay all sed that about putting a vxr engine into a nova/corsa i beleave it has been done though
Only issue with a petrol engine is the management and mounting, both are fairly easy to sort, with a diesel the fueling is rather more complicated. Which is why we used petrol first in the great history of the motor vehicle, or actually we used electric, but that was utter crap so we went for petrol.
If you want a 'first' while moving ridiculously fast mount up a Z20LEH.

Finally! somebody who see's it from my point of view, was interested to see if it has been done,it wouldnt be a true project if it wasnt a ballache tbh:thumb:
redtop/let/carb'd nova's are done to death, how many projects are there people converting a nova to a diesel??the sri 150 pulls very well in a vectra so imagine it in a nova!
not saying im going to give it a go was just curious :)
one good reason not to do it. it's a fiat engine.

better than an ancient leaking xe,with speedlines coilovers and a cage

In your opinion fella! I'd have a nice reliable xe anyday of the week!
Modern Deisel engines are good an that yeah, but you could not begin to imagine the amount of wiring involved with them!!
I was stunned beyond belief when I took mine apart at the amount of wires! And the fact that the steroe harness is wired via the ignition loom? And something as simple as a faulty coolant temp sensor puts the ECU into limp mode.

I think you mean 458NM lol! The puma engines top out at around 460NM/200bhp before you get into things like modified larger injectors ad hybrid turbos. They'll get near to the figures I've just said with not much more than a decat, intercooler upgrade and remap though.
Back on topic, similar thoughts of mondeo tdci engines have been going around in my head. I'd probably fit the entire wiring loom from the donor car, instruments, switches and all. That said they're a big heavy lump and they wouldn't be a cornering machine. I'd probably fit one to an RWD car if I had the means, and bring the engine and seating position as far rear as possible.
you can get an after market ecu in america to run common rail diesels. but tbh if it was me, i'd use the 1.7 16v diesel, as its the izuzu one, with a different head.

Im running a 1.9 cdti Nova with 300 bhp and 700 ibs ft of torq.

Right, For a start its a good idea but would need a lot of money and effort to make if right!
The torque would P!$$ on any XE nova !!!
Simple fuel pressure reg makes the out put to around 180bhp!!
If I won the lottery I would certainly consider doing a build like this myself :D
My Y17DT makes 198lb/ft from a 1700 16v, so yeah the torque would pish an XE motor, top speed however would be er, lacking....

What does an XE nova top out at? The standard 1.9/2.0 derv barges will do around 130...

Not too different then surely?
I've been fast enough in mine to convince myself that it would go faster with a longer FD ratio too, and thats with an unloaded weight of 1500+kg, not a nova.

More about these 1700 16v isuzus, do they use the same block as the older style isuzu engines like mine??

No. Ive never ever seen one like it in an "old" Vaux motor. The head is a single cam pulley affiar but the cams have a drive gear on each end (opposite end to the pully), thus one cam pully drives both cams. Like a well advanced CIH motor but obviously with 16 valves not 8.
yeah i get you, alot of 16v engines are like that, even honda do it on the icdti engines

i often thought about a project like this but apparently the cdti 150 use a "can bus" wiring system (i havnt got a clue what it is) which is soposadly VERY complicated. i think this question has come up a few times on the mig web forum. it would be very interesting to see this done, after seeing that a aftermarket ecu is available from america i was wondering if that ecu could be used with the 1.9 cdti motor?
will be a hard job.
mate of me is building a Z20let corsa A including the z20let gearbox... had to go for a stand alona management, even for the interiour light you need the full loom in perfect working order. he had a electric wizard on it for 2 weeks and even he told him.. this will be hell lol

Amen :( i found out the hard way. If i unplug my rear foglights, the EML comes on an it goes into limp mode ECU. That alone says to me "fook this :tard: "
Unless its just my funked ECU lol
lol it's on all the canbus cars. iirc the Z20let coupe boys put a led bulb in the right rear cluster to fool the TC ?!?!
LMFAO thats brilliant lol lol
I had a bit of a nosey around my Corsa, hearing all this immense wiring melarky an started upplugging random things an trying to start the car. TBH the wiring diagrams for them must be one serious fecking drawing!
Remove the headunit, an ooh look, the immobiliser cuts in lol lol

Find a good one and you won't have a problem.....its just finding one lol.
not like mine!!!
Altho its not epicly failed for over a year haha
TBH the wiring diagrams for them must be one serious fecking drawing!
Actually the wiring diagrams are ridiculously simple and even less informative, everything in a can bus system is connected by 4 wires, on every bit of the car theres a little control unit, like an ECU for an engine, that works off of signals on the 4 wires, from there it turns on whatever it needs to/throws up fault codes/bugs up and turns off the TC if you put an led bulb in apparently. So the wiring diagrams are a 4 lines connecting lots of boxes called "x control unit"
Basically it cuts the cost down for the 16 miles of copper you'd need to wire up everything in a modern the way they did in the 80's, unless it's a BMW mini, which apparently have a massively overcomplicated can bus system that was probably designed by a copper wire supplier lol
it depends on the model of corsa c. the basic 1.0 and 1.2's without air con or tc have minimal canbus. to fit a zlet to a 1.2 or 1.0 there are 2 wires for the CANbus unit to the engine loom.
mike i have the zlet and corsa c wiring diags somewhere.:thumb:

Unfortunatly there is that, i read it a lot on Corsa C of ZLETs failing or faulty sensors an such like. Gonna hold fire a bit yet tho.
true, we are seeing a slight dip in self employed work atm. coupe turbo eh? very nice. i was watching a "x20xev" on ebay australia. a kid on opelaus bought it, and it turned out to be a zlet. he paid $212 (£100)

Nuts that is, but i can believe it tbh, over here they fetch like £1400 over there no one wants them!
There aint much work about these days for sub contractors unfortunatly :( luckly were in with some of the biggest housing associations in the Midlands, but even there slow going at present.

iv done a quick google search for custom managment for comon rail deisels and come up with nothing. I'm sure someone with the know-how would wire a custom loom and ecu, it probly wouldnt work on the newer cars as the rest of the electric components wouldn't work as there linked up with the ecu.
