View Full Version : 1.6 16v supercharged
Could this be done without having to buy an aftermarket ECU (Using a 4th gen Eaton M45), by running lower boost I.E 8 psi? Or would it only work on management, also would standard cams suffice or is there some decent aftermarket ones for a good price? As if I go ahead with it I would be aiming for 200 bhp.
Do a search Edd and Count have had a few big threads on this very subject.

nick baxter got the furthest didnt he lol

Baxter did get it working but blatantly had the wrong size pulley, hence the 240bhp and lots of things breaking. lol

Rising rate fuel reg(1 to 1) will be fine on std managment plus no need to change cams.
What engine are you going to use ?
The engine is an X16XEL with .5mm bigger pistons (downside is they're high compression pistons as I bought them months ago for a different plan) and if cams aren't needed then the only other work would be a port and polish exhaust and the obvious.
I was told these engines are good for 230-240 bhp tops so what happened with Baxters.

Ruined gearbox iirc.

baxter didnt lower compresion and ran at massive psi rr operator told him not to drive it because it would explode lol
and imo the pistons are no use for this application
i agree, pistons are not much use really.
One thing that I'm wondering is, would I be able to jump in and drive it as soon as its together? Or would it run crap til it got on the rollers?

if built right it will work but i wouldnt advise driving it far till you have had the fueling etc checked
the thing with Eaton chargers is they are so big, nowhere to put it in a nova bay thats why iv gone with the Rotrex.

baxters engine bay was a fecking mess
I'm not all that bothered about how it would look under the bonnet, as long as it worked and nothing was in the way of fan blades etc, I'm not building a show car, I want a fast car.
By the sounds of it I would be better off building this as an n/a and maybe do a supercharged one at a later date.

well there was no chance of it getting in the fan blades he had to cut the firewall out take the interior fan out and mount it behind the engine.
to be fair the 2 engines you are looking at will require totaly different parts, a high compresion screamer is no good to convert to forced induction if you build that when you decide to supercharge you would be better of selling and starting again and in that case get a c16xe as due to the head they flow better and are better with forced induction
The heads wont make a difference once ported and polished, I did have a C16XE but I sold it as the X16XEL is the same engine just the heads are different (and SBD found that a C16XE block with an X16XEL head gives better performance)

i dint find anything wrong with that
running an alternator as an bearing taking about 60hp is seriously impressively dangerous
