there are square top & round top on the 1600 engine.. the gte e16se is round top iirc

AH HA THE e16SE has both round and square top, the GTE with a bosch brain and dizzy has a round top and timing marks at the crank this is the engine with the red dizzy, the later E16se found in non cat GSI's has part bosch part siemens eng management and a square top cover with no timing marks at the crank and a black dizzy and the C16se has a square top and no dizzy but a coil pack and a cat:thumb:


EDIT i have both these engines and in original cars.

the 1600 8v was fitted in loads of astra4 & zafiras, so it must be possible to find one new

goin to order new 1 tommorw 40 quid for complete thing .The bloke needed my engine num to match .How can i tell if its a early gsi or gte engine?i have 2 e16se in my garage the now 1 has a tentioner on the belt the other does not in witch case both cam covers are differnt., hmmm

Do the rocker covers look the same? Can you put up a pic?
