Fueling system question

Whats the thing that sits behind the fuel pump in the bracket. Looks like a regulator with a drainage screw at the bottom. Whats it for and is it needed? Been told that its not needed but just want to double check. Also recieved a brand new fuel pump yesterday, its from a petrol range rover but its exactly the same as the nova one, you reckon it will work on the nova?

Think thats a Fuel flow Damper to regulate the flow?

pump will be ok...

the other thing is there to take the shocks out of system because the fuel pump is going on & off all the time,
