Ok not sure if this is a repost but i've just come across - www.coverbox.co.uk (http://www.coverbox.co.uk) and it's really cheap...

About 4 weeks ago i was getting quotes of 1300 + for my 3rd year on the 1.2 nova and they have just quoted me £700...
Also did a quick golf 1.9 TDi quote and it came back 1500 which is about 1 grand less than 4 week ago lol...
Give it a go. (Y)

2. Free Tracker installed

Choose the date and time to suit you - if your car is stolen, one call to us and we are able to trace the vehicle, and liaise with the police for its return. The tracker also counts the miles that you drive against your forecast, if you drive less miles than you forecast then your premium will be reduced and if you drive more than you think it may be increased. You can check your miles daily on your personal web site to help keep track and put you in control of the costs.
The day I have an always-on tracker installed in my car is the day you prise the keys out of my cold, dead hands.

You can guarantee it won't be a case of a few wires, those things will be wired in with Fort Knox grade security

how do the "tracker" insurance systems work then? i want one instaled but if all you have to do is find a wire on the battery or fuse box and pull it out then they cant be worth the money,

the tracker wont just be a case of pull a wire off or a fuse out.

The tracker itself would normally be installed behind the dash and hard wired into the car loom itself.

I was just saying if you really wanted to remove it you can.

But if the car was nicked a theif wouldnt know it was there so they wouldnt think about it.

Certainly wno't be that simple. If its any good, it'll have a battery backup and a mass of sensor wires (much like any decent alarm), as soon as any of them are cut you can bet it'll twang a signal to the insurance who will be right on the phone to you.

My guess is you'd also have to tell them when the car was going for servicing etc as if the battery gets disconnected it'll ping them and they'll think you're trying to pull it out.

1984 called, they want their black box back (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/article660587.ece)

Thing I don't get about that ^ is the rates:

0700-1000: 12p per mile
1000-0000: 7p per mile
0000-0500: 1p per mile

so... 0500 to 0700 is what, free? lol

do you have a mobile phone???? then somewhere, you are being tracked, even if only by the phone provider....... and if you pop up on a government list, they will know just where you've been for quite some time.

Doesn't matter if its in your name, its whether or not you were using it.

Hayley can track calls at work, if someone dials 999 on a mobile. I'm sure she said they can narrow the location down to a few feet!

Im slighty confused as to why its such a big problem to have a tracker, some you can track yourself, it saves money on insurance and should the car ever be nicked you dont have to rely on the rubbish coppers to find your car.

So what some **** will know where you go everyday, its not hard to find where someone lives and where they work.

Exactly what i was thinking /\ theirs alot of people saving the hassle of their car being put in a compound etc... by just claiming everything on their insurance and claiming the correct milage.

the tracker is only activated when the car as been nicked? or on all the time so they will know were the car is 24/7 and see if your speeding etc..

This is the always on jobber, recording where you drive, how far, how long, what time (and presumably therefore how fast...). Not having that in my car thankyouverymuch. I'm guessing the people who don't mind it have never read 1984 lol

Interesting that coverbox seems to be underwritten (or possibly just owned) by Wunelli Ltd...who did not exist until 2006. Had never heard of them till 5 mins ago!

Oh and yes, a mobile phone can be triangulated to less than 100yds in a town centre, it doesn't even have to be making a call at the time, just needs to be switched on. This pans out to more like 1/2 a mile when you are in the sticks. The same sort of triangulation system the wehrmacht used to use to find allied spies with radio transmitters.
