i have a nova 1.2 1993 the igniton module heats up beond limits and then it blows up anyone had these faults before

Description/location of the module please just so we know we are talking about the same thing?

small unit mounted under the coil pack with a four pin plug connected to it

ah yes found it.
Those little black modules get hot in use and are sealed to the thick aluminium block by heat sink compound. This is available from Maplins or other electrical shops. My first guess would be make sure the module is making good thermal contact with the aluminium, and resealing it as necessary with the heat sink goo.
Make sure those 4 little pins aren't corroded as well.

Thanks, found it on my own car. I was used to seeing the module on full display (a la Mk2 Cav) not hidden away.
Small cars, eh, what can you do
The only other obvious cause i can think of is component failure elsewhere in the low tension system having a knock on effect, hope he gets it sorted
