Okay, so I came to PNG, because the plan was to buy my son a 2 door nova about now, get it perfect by the time he's 17 and flog my astra and insure it in my name. Actually it would be my car, and I would use it daily and need it with class one business use. But anyway, I decided to confuse myself.

So I went on everyone's favorite search engine, fuddled the dates of birth so I could get a quote, and found

with me, wifey, son as named driver and 100 years PROTECTED no claims and fully comp:
Astra 1.6 8V 75 BHP - lowest price £1756
Nova 1.0 2 door Lowest price £1343
Corsa B 1.0 £600
Corca C 1.0 £540
mini 1000 (My first car) £600

So the plan changes. After Easter I'm looking for a Corsa C   lol

Not so bad, wifey has agreed I can have her mk3 cav and she'll have the corsa sewing machine lol

The only prob is, unless the insurance is him the boys name he wont build up ncb, they are all that brings the price of insurance down.

Pay the extra and have the policy in his name. Works better in the long run.

agreed, short term pain for long term gain. The first year will be a grand, the following years "should" drop by a minimum of 20%

also i found when i was on my rents insurance, that with one parent it dropped, with two it went up.

and being insured with my mum was cheaper then my dad. and my dad has all of the no claims and longer driving, and it still put it up lol.

so try with your missus and your son by them self.

with direct line my 1.2 nova was about 400-500 a few years back

as said get him his own policy and let the NCB build up.

Ive been on my parents insurance for the 1st 2 years of driving then i got banned and now my insurance is very expensive to say the least.

Im paying over the odds now to get my NCB up so my insurance will drop.

Fuddling my dates ive had a quote with the same convictions and its 700 pound cheaper with one years NCB

If you were wanted for street racing and aiding and abetting in LA then your GTR34 policy would be pricey too. lol
